So who made the OTHER appliances then?
This was years before Maytag made ranges (though the design is certainly something it wouldn't be hard to imagine a company like Maytag WOULD DO!)...
And certainly the small appliances (blender, clock radio, can opener) are hopefully nondescript non-working props made for the ad... Otherwise "someone owes Sunbeam, or whoever the manufacturer is, some money!"...!

Have no idea who made the gas range; can't tell much about it from the angle it's shown.
As for the items shown, whoever the manufacturers are they would be the customers of Plaskon. They may well have provided the objects, as it would be good advertising for them as well.

Silex
The blender looks to be Silex and the dishes are melmac. Maytag made Dutch Oven Ranges at and around 1950 and then discontinued producing cooking equipment until the early 80's when they bought Magic Chef. The Maytag pictured would have had a black agitator with the silver cap on a rubber mount to activate the lid switch, noted by the angles on the inner lid. The vanilla colored agitator style would have been used in wringer machines and Highlanders of that time.

There was a Laundromat here on the Cape in the town of Sandwich that had TL Maytags that had a Highlander Shell (Probably were HL) and the Wringer style Gyrator in them. I remember this as plain as day. But since I've been here for some time now, I have yet to see this type of set up. Could that arrangement been used for Coin-Op Laundry only ?

The stove is a Caloric, I think. The plastics company could not show an actual Gyrator in the ad without Maytag's permission, so this funny color thing is shown. You will note that it is an illustration not a photograph so colors could be subjective. The narrow post Gyrator was frequently used in lower end Maytags. Even the time-fill AMP (A4MP)had that and my 1961 or 62 time-fill Highlander came with a black Bakelite narrow post Gyrator.

this is interesting as to what they are trying to "promote" of their products.....
although so many of us had washers in the kitchen, it was never considered a kitchen appliance, but added here to show their use of plastics, not sure of the stove except for the plastic knobs, yet no fridge, but anything made by this manufacturer from the table, dinnerware, chair, counter tops, knife handles, baby bottles, maybe the first plastic storage bags, to many uses for their appliance applications....I wouldn't doubt the whole set is made by them, including the flooring....they made a point of view to show it

But what you have to remember about photo-ads during the fifties and earlier is that they were VERY expensive (I know this because my uncle and mother were in the business during those years) and it's very likely that this was a black and white photo that was artificially colorized for the ad. That Maytag agitator could have been blue, but likely would have been black at that time and they may have left it in its natural resin color just for the ad. Anyway, wouldn't that have been the wrong agitator anyway for that style machine with the agitator float water level contol?

Where students go to learn appliance repairs as well as countless other trades, but somehow I never went to "Voc" as a few of my other fellow classmates did, other than attending Open House--and the institute not only repairs, but I believe sells or at least SOLD apps', too...

Yes, sorry. Thanks for the correction. I knew it was made by one of the big gas stove makers; I just didn't go far enough through the alphabet.
So it was a hand colored photograph. It looks a little surreal, especially that window, for a photograph.
Bakelite could be many colors as is seen from the jewelry made from it, but this agitator is not supposed to be Bakelite because the ad says the agitator is Melamine and that might be why they made it a funny color so that Maytag and Union Carbide would not be after them for making false claims about the agitator. I did not know that Melamine was strong enough for a washer agitator.

Comforting colors in loose focus, easy on the eyes, and to be reminded that Automatic Maytags once had the unequaled gyrator was a delight. And how proud she is to show it off, celebrating their best agitator. As for there never having been one in that color, oh well! I learned a long time ago watching "Bewitched" that advertising is fiction.
Just the other day, there was a Tower Unimatic in the dream washer thread, copied from a POD, in which the advertisers claim that the machine uses only 3&1/2 gallons of hot water for the full load displayed Even with a cold rinse available on that Custom Imperial, it would take 5 gallons. They just make stuff up.

I believe that Maytag bought Hardwick Range in the early eightis before it bought Magic Chef, and Maytag re-entered the range business at that time but did not become a full line appliance company until it bought Magic Chef which brought refrigerators into the mix.

This one is upside-down: The broiler is actually ABOVE the oven! Unless it's a SECOND oven...
Tappan sure made some weird ranges if this is one of 'em, as well as the one w/ four in a row...
--And there are COUNTLESS photos of the "oddball" Gaffers & Sattler's and "unique" Chambers' -of-the-day!

Tappan Range
My grandmother had the exact same one in the 1st post, except hers did not have the window doors. God how I wish I had saved that from ownership transfer when my uncle sold her house after she died. Bar none, that model had the BEST broiler yet to be surpassed by any modern models...could cook a steak to perfection.

Well, now I feel silly, thinking the range was a Tappan...! (The name is so hard to see!)
Sorry for some of the content I posted above; it belongs in another thread...
Anyway, neat idea, putting the broiler up where it's least likely to trap lots of grease & gather dust... If only other stove companies followed suit...
