Hi all,

Would anybody on this site like to `swap' some detergent? There are some detergents I would like from the USA, and if one of our USA members would like UK products, this could save us both considerable money.

For me to ship a 2kg package from the UK surface mail (6 weeks delivery) will cost £9-84. The cheapest way is to send multiple packages of 2kg, if required. 2kg typically gets you 2 small packets of detergent (powder or tabs), or a detergent and a fabric conditioner, or I would guess one bottle of liquid detergent.

I would estimate the maximum total cost of sending such a package (including products) to the US to be between £12-15.

If anybody is interested in being my international detergent buddy, I would really appreciate them looking into some shipping rates from the US, and we'll see if it's viable. Any luck, the rates will be comparable and we'll break just about even....the easiest way would be to make shipments of a comparable value so we don't need to worry about paying each other at all - I guess - though I'm open to any preferred way of working this out.

I would like to stick with the cheapest possible shipping rates, I don't mind waiting!! FWIW I have been looking into ordering this stuff through companies and the procing is just a joke.....$19.99 fee for use of supermarket, $9.99 flat fee for all shipments plus $32 for 5lb.........I'll pay it if I have to but I thought I'd try this way first so two people benefit and the companies don't get `big bucks' off us!! Someone did say they were interested a few weeks ago but I forgot who it was. Hello!!! Are you out there!!!

Nick,

I'd be happy to participate. A suggestion. Most European and lot's of US companies regularly distribute "doorknob" packets of their products...or have one-off boxes you can buy cheaply at chemists for camping, etc.
I can just imagine how US customs is going to react to this one...

Sudsdudeshane, thanks for your response. You have mail.

Panthera, thanks also for your response. Which UK detergents would you like to try, or have I misunderstood - were you thinking more that you'd like to participate with a US member?

Regards to both, Nick.

Sure!! I would love to Nick!!

I can also get giant boxes of Tide at Cosco for cheap.I always eye them when I am there( My skin has a reaction to Tide, can't use it ) However, I do use the Persil, always wanted to try the non-bio tabs and perhaps some other Varieties. i always have my eye out there for what is avalible. Let me know, Have Car, will travel to where ever. I also have boxes of Amway Sa-8 on my shelf all of the time as well. It is the non-Bio version.

Any one interested in Australian Detergent

If any one is interested in Australian detergents Omo, Cold Power, Drive, Dynamo etc. Let me know would be happy to participate I love US and UK detergents get from Amazon and Britsuperstore costs too much for freight as sent via Fed Ex or Air Express have a nice little stash probably too much but I would hate to run low. Love Tide HE liquid Ariel Powder original and colour. Drop me a line on email would be happy to explain our detergents for you. Thanks Jim

Nick,

Since I am often - increasingly, in fact, in the US, I don't need any of those. I already know which US powders and liquids work for me. Does not mean I wouldn't be happy to send US folks a German sample or two...be very happy to.
But the UK market is completely unknown to me. I haven't spent any time - other than as a tourist - in the UK since 2000.
Let me know what German stuff you'd like and suggest one or two UK products to me.
What I would especially like to find is a silk detergent that actually cleans better than shampoo...without killing the silk.
Thanks
Keven

Keven,

you sound as if you could do with some Cashmere Wash, we have one here that Asda and Tesco stock with a pink label.

Cant think what its called but I believe its very good and does not smell as strong as Persil Silk and Wool. However PSAW is very good and I use it on all my fleeces, jumpers and fine fabrics. cleans great and it cares LOL.

Thanks folks.

Peter H, thanks for your positivity. Have a think about what you would like to order and let me know.

Irishwashguy, I would be able to send you a full pack of Persil tabs of your choice (40 tabs) or two small packets (20 tabs). There would be some extra weight to use up too - I could give you some samples of other Brit tablets (Ariel, Daz, Surf, Bold, Fairy, I have them all in stock!)or obviously whatever else you instruct me to send.

Keven, I don't know much about Silk and Wool products. I tend to use Woolite or Persil Silk and Wool. I do know of the `cashmere' product Aquarius mentioned. Persil Silk and Wool has a strong fragrance - to me very feminine, but not unpleasant. Woolite is a lighter more classic fragrance.
As for suggesting products - well, my personal fave are Unilever Persil tabs. I guess you have Ariel in Germany? All I know is of the Henkel Persil and the Vernel softener. I have listed the main British detergent brands in mt reply to Irish wash guy above, are there any of those you would like? I would be happy to send you a bottle of silks wash and then a selection of British products from my stash. Your wish is my command, sir. Please give me a little run down on German detergents / FS.

Frontloader 812...same as above, really, just let me know whatever you want and I'll gladly send some out to you. I know very little about Aussie detergents. I quite like the idea of trying Drive again simply because I like the name and remember it fondly when we had it in the UK. Definite scent to it.

Let's make this work and have some fun !!

Nick
