Apparently if you mod the drain pump housing of a older Bosch it makes the machine quite a lot quieter?

Fascinating stuff.
I know how many of us have bristled at the fact that Whirlpool's machines have not had accessible filter clean-out ports.
But, maybe that's why they're so quiet when draining?
Because nothing is connected to the cabinet to amplify the drain motor vibrations....

On my LG 4270 the only sound you hear is the water actually going down the drain pipe.  The pump is very quiet.  I thought after many loads it would start to get louder but it hasn't.  The 4270 also has the clean out on the front of the washer.

when new, most are very quiet, and some start to show signs of noise as they 'wear' some...

there are advantages for many machine of having an electric pump.....

but at least it has become a concern, and investigate to reduce the sound level...

interesting though, when belt driven machines that also drove the pump, how quiet they were, the most you would hear would be cavitation from the hose....

I wonder if they would benefit from some sort of insulation wrapping, and /or attaching it to the drum rather than the body of the machine.....

I would like to see what they come up with for a resolve....

I must say I'm rather impressed with how quiet the drain pump is in my GE Profile dishwasher when it runs. It's a very faint hum, even when running dry. It's insulated with thick rubber grommets and also has a metal weight strapped to it.
Probably similar to that brass tuned weight WP had on its motors for a while.

But many others I've heard are awfully loud and obnoxious.
