Hiya all! I have collected this new gem, a lovely Hotpoint 9605! It is in stunning condition and even came with the original manual! I haven't tested it yet but here is how I have been able to acquire it.

Basically it was brought for the owners 5 yr old son who likes washers for £77 3 months ago, however he had lost interest and I got it for £12! However, the selector may not move on automatically as it has a)never been tested fully and b)may just have stopped working.

I believe it is a Low Energy model and apparently it washes 10* lower than it says without pressing the 'Super Wash' button, which it does not have, so do I have to press the heavy soil button? As there is no sign of a Super Wash button.

Here is one piccy, I will post more pictures for you all tomorrow :)

Thanks, Chris

Yup your spot on !

Pressing heavy soil makes the washer heat up that extra 10%, Some models had economy buttons that just turned the heater off allowing hot tap water to be used. Also I am not sure but I have a inkling that heavy soil button when pressed also make the hot and cold water valves operate when only hot would normally be used I am not sure if that applies to your model.

Hi Austin!

Yea, reading the manual through, took me ages to understand it but I now know I have to press it for the normal heat.

Hi Rob, I am on a water meter as such, but like with the twin tub of mine, I'll only use it occasionally, like when Granny is down, she loved hers!

Hi Craig. Yep, It's nice but the water intake, well it's huge! And I think I'll skip it's cool down as that will take in a lot of water :( But I don't use acrylic cycles so I won't have to stop it's cool down 90% of the time.

Will post some pics....

Here is the button bank :)

The programs. You may just make out 'Low Energy Programs' But I think the flash got the better of the text at the bottom.

The program dial and mains light. The dial is much smaller then you think, and same goes for the cabinet, I thought it would be ginormous! I think the mains light is green, but I haven't tested it yet.

Finally...

A shot down the panel. Forgot to take a tub shot. The tub is mint, not a scratch or dent in it! And I hope it stays that way! Will take a few more shots later and post them!

Take care, Chris :)

Well aren't you the lucky one! I'd have been beside myself with excitement if I'd had one of those at your age (in fact, I probably still would be). Alas, in the mid 1990s, a 9605 cost about £550 and my Mother would never have had one at any price. I can't quite believe the previous owner was effectively a 5-year-old. Sickening.

Anyway, hope it springs to life nicely and there are no problems with that supposedly non-advancing dial.

Whilst they may cost a small fortune to run compared to a front loader, for an occasional wash load it's really not much worse than having a large bath or long power shower. Nor is there anything stopping you from re-using the wash water if you're careful: you could drain it into the Supermatic, for example (but not all the water or you'll have a flood) - or even just remove the wash load before it drains - either way, as long as you keep a close eye on it you increase the possibilities for being water-wise!

Regarding the cool down on the synthetics cycles, it's worth bearing in mind - if my reading of the timer sequence is correct when previously reviewing the service info - that it's just a rearrangement of the tub flush fill you get on the cottons cycles: at the end of cottons, after the tub has drained, there is a 1 (or maybe 2) minute period where the fill valve is opened at the same time as it pumps out, helping to flush away any suds. As far as I can tell, on the synthetics cycles this 1-2 minute drain/fill is just moved to the beginning of the wash water drain to cool down the load. If anyone knows for sure from experience, however, speak up! My point there is that whichever cycle you select you'll probably use an equal amount of water.

Have fun with it!

Cool - well done you. Its the same one I got this summer although it went for more than £12 :( Fingers crossed there is nothing wrong with the timer - it might be that they didn't understand the cycle as it can take ages for the water to heat up depending on the programme and temperature of the incoming water and the timer does not advance.

Be really careful moving the machine and don't be tempted to pull it from the sides at the top as the panels crack really easily. As you can see from the photo, mine was already like this and I have seen others for sale just the same.

Mine has an orange mains light instead of the green (poor photo but it was my iphone). It was leaking when I got it so had to strip down and change the seals and pumps but it works great now. The only thing not right is the interlock which means I can open the lid when it is spinning but the brake comes on straight away so it's not a problem and I quite like that!!

Have fun with it
Cheers
Stephen

Hiya Stephen!

Well done for fixing the leek from it :) Sure it works a treat now!

Yea, I did tell dad that 95/96/99 and 93 series fascias are very brittle, so we only pulled it by the metal panels.

Will be doing a spin in half an hour or so, so stay tuned to my channel for the video!

Chris!
