That's the exact model I bought for my Mother and the family in autumn 1984 that you can read about on my profile page, complete with the "LET US SHOW YOU SYSTEM 21" sticker. I can't find an archive of the newspaper ad of the sale so I could post the sale price, and I've slept many nights since then; it would not surprise me if it was less than $250.
Yes, ours was a spin drain model, with the five/three/three seen on this unit, DA agi, self cleaning filter, and unbalance switch and buzzer. Ours had the clothes ring at the top of the wash tub. I would not be at all caught off guard if I were to learn that ours was a leftover 1983 model. And, I can confirm that units that looked exactly like this one produced after 1985 and before the '87 redesign *did* employ a neutral drain: I was visiting a friend in early 1986 while hers was in operation, and was baffled to hear what I *imagined* was the machine begin spinning, switch off with a "clunk" as if someone had opened the lid, then resume spinning. It would be 1.5 year more before I would learn what was actually going on.
Ours did *not* have the agitator-mounted fabric softener cup that this one has, nor was one advertised. Possibly, some owner added this after-market, or their local Sears dealer tossed it in as an incentive to get people to take these machines home?
A curious thing about the operation of this early direct drive: On *all* cycles including "Cotton/Sturdy", the first spin was low-speed.
Also different from the direct drives that came later and that we all know so well: this model used three spray rinses during the first spin ONLY, and NO long spray at the start of the final spin.
