Is Fisher & Paykel Still a Viable Laundry Option?

As a previous owner of an F&P set, I wonder if they are still a considerable option for someone looking for a TL machine with an agitator? Seems they are flexible machines all around and the TOL dryer is a reverse tumbler. And as I recall, disassembly can be done with a couple common hand tools by the homeowner...

Any thoughts?

I'd very much consider them if I purchased new again. My friend's parents have an older washer (from like 2009 or 2010) and they like it very much. Her mom only complained that it was expensive and "high tech" lol. But they seem to be a good option still. Lowe's used to carry them but i don't see them listed anymore on their website.

What i like about them is they seem to be a good mix of HE and non HE. Lots of wash options and the recirculating wash spray make it very desirable,IMO. Good size wash tub too...

They still make claims to the limited mechanical parts...less to break.

They're still some of the most reliable domestic appliances we have in country here. All of our other traditional domestic brands are low quality Electrolux based stuff now. With the F&P Agitator machines the design has still only changed minimally in the last 20 years.

I've chatted to a few F&P authorised repair guys and they all indicate that now the machines are made in Asia rather than AU and NZ the build quality has gone up and a lot of the traditional repairs that were made under warranty no longer happen.

F & P Top loader's

Further to what Nathan said, authorised F&P repair guys that I've spoken to like and rate the Top loader's highly, much more so than the front load machines being made out of China.

The top loader's are made in Thailand.

Personally, I believe F&P has the HE-TL machine done right. 

 

They're programmed flexibly, can still be run on 'water wasting' options very easily and are mechanically simple. YouTube videos of agitation show a machine that turns over loads very well compared to others. 

 

The SmartDrive machine in our family is going on 22yrs at present. Aside from mice in the wiring harness, necessitating repair (farm-laundry, so the main door comes from both inside the house AND the back verandah) it has worked very well in this time.

On my list

When the LG T.L. meets it's maker, the 7kg F&P Washsmart machine will definitely be on my list as a replacement.
Had the LG for almost 8 years and while it has been a very good work horse for us, I think I have had enough of a pulsator style washing machine.
That being said of course the 6.5kg Beko F.L. will also be on the same list as well, along with the Euromaid 7kg F.L.
Oh boy! when the time comes I can feel a few headaches coming on when deciding.

Looked Around This Weekend

and it seems that while a few independent dealers can get the F&P machines, none have them on the sales floor. Apparently, when the sale to Haier went through, dealers panicked. Just a speculation, but still.

I do like that the GE sourced dryer is pretty adjustable. Not sure about the glass top...
