I clicked on the Colgate-Palmolive Australian website, just to see if Henkel who acquired C.P's Australian laundry division back in August last year.
I clicked on the laundry detergents bar, got the laundry page up and discovered that only the Dynamo and Cold Power range along with 1 Fab variety are highlighted with links to the relevant version, all the other Fab varieties, all the Spree varieties and liquid Hurricane can't be opened.
I wonder if Henkel are planning a purge of the C.P. brands in order to bring some new ones here?(hope so.) in my view there are too many Fab fragrances anyway, and as for Spree, I havent seen it in the major supermarkets for a long time anyway, I believe you can pick it up in discount variety stores, and I am not sure that liquid Hurricane is a big seller anyway.

I miss Dynamo.  So good while I could find it at Big Lot's in the Atlanta area.  Have not seen it in ages.

Love the smell.  Thought it was a good cleaner.

Dynamo doesn't smell too bad, and although I didn't use Hurricane, the wiff from bottles seemed fresh enough, but not too overwhelming.

I think even Spree disappeared from our country IGA's stored the last few months. Replaced with more evil pods ( and Cold Power *scowls*) , of course.

Thanks Louis

Thank you for putting the link up Louis, I am not too sure how to do it.
Washer 111 yeah a bit sad about Spree, while it wasn't the greatest detergent ever made, it was far from the worst too, and at least it didn't have all these potpourri mix and match fragrances that Fab and Surf come in thee days, from memory there was only only 4 fragrances apple, lemon, lavender and fresh linen(my favourite.) and it was a single fragrance to each one.

I was never a big fan of any of the CP detergents to be honest. I don't feel like any of them clean that well and their powders are gritty and full of filler. If you pre-dissolve some Cold Power or Fab in a jug before adding it to the washer, there is always some gritty white residue that settles at the bottom that won't dissolve, like fine sand. Dynamo smells nice but is so gloopy just makes a mess.

I always used Drive and still do when I can get a hold of it - love the smell - otherwise, I use Omo or liquid detergents from Costco. The Kirkland Signature Ultra detergent is great in a cold water wash and the Tide original smells fantastic, they rinse really cleanly.

I think changes of products or trusted brand names are only to be seen in very smallish steps after any acquisition but there is already a new research and development center launched in Sydney.

"Australia and New Zealand was seen as a region that required an Innovation Center because the consumer behaviour and laundry formulas used were unique to the rest of the world"

I see Dynamo a lot in my area, though at discount stores like Family Dollar and Ocean State Job Lot. The local grocery chain, Market Basket, has it too. Smells pretty decent.

Dynamo

Of today has nothing to do with that detergent liquid which came in a "little blue jug". *LOL*

It has been more years than one cares to admit but *STILL* have the Dynamo measuring cup that came with free samples distributed in our street when product was launched. Still remember walking home from school and seeing all those promo bags hung on front door knobs or left on porches. Tell me what detergent maker would do that today? Thousands of those promo sample product bags must have been given out in NYC alone.

"The little blue jug is Dynamo!*
*Recommended by women who used to use powders...."

The Australian Dynamo is nothing like what is sold here at Family Dollar. It's a thick, sort of sludgy liquid. I believe there's also a Dynamo powder. I don't ever recall seeing Dynamo powder in the US, though I may have missed it.

Never was

Dynamo then later Era were some of the first liquid "heavy duty" laundry detergents to tackle the American market. They joined Wisk a product that had been out for ages.

Era's big claim to fame was it contained enzymes (proteinase)because "protein gets out protein".... So you could ditch a separate stain remover and enzyme presoak.

Dynamo OTOH pitched concentration (one needed only 1/4 cup of liquid versus a cup of most powders), and that again one could pretreat stains.

For our Aussie chaps:

Have never heard such a posh Oz accent

Drive

Thats another major favourite of mine, too. I personally rank it better than Omo, although I know others are perfectly happy with it. Always seem as though the Omo I get clumps up and is an odd, gritty type of powder. Scent is "fresh," at least to my nostrils.
The Drive is better, but not immensely, in regards to clumping. The fragrance is more "Clean" than "fresh," if you catch my drift.

Personal favourite in terms of scent is Bio-Zet, by KAO - IIRC a Japanese creation, suited to their "cold-water obsession." You really cannot go past it, both in terms of the powder's beautiful free-flowing, non-clumping behaviour, superb cleaning and gentle, "sweet-fresh" sort of scent.
For fans of shorter washes or vintage-style machines that work quickly, they also market a Quick-Wash liquid, with double-enzymes. Presumably a thick liquid as it only comes in very small (tall, skinny) bottles from what I've seen.

Personally found the Fab and Surf powder varieties to give me headaches, even when walking past them. Working in the detergent aisle at the Supermarket was another story. I don't know whether anyone should deal with "Battle of the Petrochemical Fragrances," because it is utterly overwhelming.

On the "Spree" front, I found some in a Supa-IGA here in suburban Perth just yesterday, although I didn't check the tag to see whether or not it was marked with "DELETE."

Launderess: With the "posh" accents, one has to remember Australia is still a very young nation. Many of those people would have been migrants from the post-war period.
The "Aussie-Accent" as we know it probably came from their children born during the 50s and 60s, and the nth-generation families here from the beginning.
(That said) Even though my family has been in this corner of the country for the best part of 125 years or so, my Grandfather does have a more British than "Aussie" accent, despite living in rural areas most of his life, initially in what is now part of suburban Perth and then onto the South-West. Same with his Brother, too.

Wisk

We had liquid Wisk for a short time in Australia too, from memory it was a red bottle and it's ain feature seemed to be built in deodorisers which removed odours from clothes as well as strong cleaning ability.
My mother tried it once or twice, however it never really took off here and was canned after a few months .
The first liquid I remember was Aura, it hasd a really nice fresh fragrance and was not too thick, but it too has been confined to the memories of we who remember. Them.

I will be very interested to see if anything new appears on the shelves as a result of Henkels take over of Colgate Palmolive.

Drive would have to be my favourite Aussie detergent, closely followed by Dynamo. I have a soft spot for the scent of Fab Sunshine Fresh and like to use it from time to time but find I do have to boost it with a bit of Sard or Vanish. I'll have to grab a couple of boxes if they are planning on taking it away.

I'll keep an eye on the supermarket aisles.

Matt

Fab sunshine fresh

Yes Matty I do agree that Fab Sunshine Fresh is the best of the Fab range, it wouldn't be too bad if they kept that one and deleted most of the others if that is what they are planning to do in time.
