Hello!

I am restoring a KDS-16.

The pump seal need to be changed and upon removing the motor I discovered the metal between the steel plate and the motor is totally rusted and soft. The hole for the screw nearest the cutout for the drain completely crumbled. Is this the end for this machine?

Henkle makes several version of DEVCON
Some are steel fillers some aluminum, maybe you get lucky and can clean the effected area and repair it with this epoxy
I've Aluminum putty and steel putty in aluminum cylinder heads with good results.

There are also zinc alloy rods for non ferrous metals

Rusty, sump and tank on a KD16 dishwasher

Doesn’t look too bad to me. This is pretty typical for an older KitchenAid dishwasher.

I use 3M marine sealant to reassemble something like this. That stuff is amazing. Doesn’t seem to deteriorate at all for decades.

You should be able to get many years out of that dishwasher yet.

Water pump mounting gaskets

You should be able to use the old gaskets. I never replaced those gaskets,if necessary, you can smear a film of silicone sealant over them and just reassemble them.

If you have money to Burn replace them but it doesn’t make any difference in the long run.
