This unbearable Texas weather seems to have let up today! As of now (9:15), it's a balmy 78 degrees outside. Really surprised me because usually at this time it's starting to heat up. I hope it stays like this the rest of the week; drove with my window down (and the A/C off) for the first time today! Will be looking forward to the day when I can turn the window unit in the Studio off for a few months...:)

Homesick already . . .

I just got into Houston for business a couple of hours ago and it is MUCH warmer today than it was back home in Lubbock. We have been having unusually cool weather this past week. I was rather enjoying it.

I would LOVE some snow this year! I guess one can dream.

Bryan

Hey, if schedule permits, come on this way for a visit. Or you might have a better time in Bellville, checking out the new finds there.... :-)

Cold front

I was surprised to wake up to thunder and when I opened my front door (faces north) got a face full of wind and rain. NO WAY! A cold front in August? Well, it's a nice 76 in Opelousas and the high will only reach 90 today.

I was taking a look at the Farmer's Almanac winter 2006-2007 forecast and they're saying winter will start early and it will be COLD! I have electric heat but I also have propane and if all else fails.. Helen (ducks and runs)

We've had an absolutely beautiful August with temperatures near normal so we only needed to use the AC during the daytime with high temps in the low to mid 80's and most of nights have been cool enough to sleep with the windows open with temperatures dropping between 60-65 by morning. And to top it off we have not reach 90 degress once this month which is going to make for a very cheap month electricity wise.

It is suppose to get really cool this weekend, so hopefully soon I'm going to be able to rev up with Whirlpool Combo to wash our autumn comforter. YAY, I can't wait for fall and sweatshirt weather.

A cool front cam thru and at 11:20 this morning it's usuallyu in the low 90's by now. But today it's only 84 F with lower (50%) humidity. That's nice!
I usually track the first good cool front in this area and usually the first one that comes thru that really makes a difference has been about Oct 5. But we will still get 90's into early November.

Nice today in Fort Worth

its been awful the past mo. humid run amuck . Here in our plant it's been avg around 105 to 109 almost everday.. This is wonderful now it's only 85 Hope it hangs on for a while . So Do all the flatwork girls.

My Weather Channel desktop thingy says

82 in Opelousas. We'd usually be pushin' 90 abuot right now but tonight's lows are going to go down into the 60s. Say YAY for north winds!

As Robert said, Minnesota has been beautiful this August. We've been having "fall-like" weather in Central MN for a couple of weeks.

I can hear the Canadian geese fly over head in the evenings with their distinctive "honk, honk, honk". A sure sign that fall is in the offing. My two little hummingbirds who have been visiting my feeder all summer are now gone; they left early!

My garden is just about finished; we only have tomatoes and sweet potatoes left ... probably until the first frost (usually later in September). I will be able to do some tilling, plant trimming and some early clean-up this long Labor Day weekend.

I, too, love fall and wearing sweatshirts! They hide those pesky mid-waist problems!! :-)

It is cooler here as well. Only 81 right now and that is a nice change. No effect here from Ernesto which I am so thankful for. From what I have heard not much damage anywhere in the state. Well I have made it through my first hurricane warning!!! Terry

Jason ... we are at 72 degrees right now; the high was expected to be 74.

Our evenings have been delightfully cool ... we awoke to 53 degrees this morning; perfect sleeping weather!

I'm sure we will experience some more summer days but this weekend is supposed to be overcast and temps right around where they are now. Perfect for getting summer-end chores done.

Overhere the weather isn't as it should be. Temperatures this week won't come over 65*F during the day. No airconditioners needed here. Earlier this week it was so cold inside that I had to put the heating on. And it's raining almost all the time, except for this afternoon. But tomorrow we will get more rain again...

Hi Louis ... oh boy; heaters on in August, isn't that something? Is your weather really off-balance this year?

I thought of you a couple of weeks ago. I watched a public television concert of Andre Rieu; he had returned home to Maastricht (spelling?) and the music was incredible! They coordinated a song to the bells in the church's bell tower; really something to hear. He played a lot of songs that were for the people of Maastricht; I enjoyed watching it immensely!

Is Maastricht near you?

I noticed it was cooler when I left the house today. Yesterday was PDH. My electric bill has been much higher than usual ... but I found out a couple days ago one heating element in the system was stuck ON at least some of the time. ARRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

Geoff,

Maastricht is the most southern city in the Netherlands. I am in one of the most northern ones. Groningen - Maastricht is about 350 kilometers (217 miles).

Our weather is more than a bit off balance this year. July was hotter than ever and August is wetter than ever, quite a few records are broken this year.

Louis

Here in central WI we haven't had the A/C on the entire month of August. The electric bill should be a bit more tolerable this time around.

To respond to a comment above, as far as Waco is concerned, it tied for the 1951 record for the number of consecutive 100 or above degree temp days. And Temple, only 30 miles south, was the same.

It was noticeably cooler this morninhg, I actually drove with the sun roof open and opened the a/c vents to let in outside air. It's actually 86 outside now, two days ago at this time it was 93 or 94. Tonight's low is forecast for 66, a high of 99 tomorrow, with a low of 72 tomorrow night.

Still pretty warm here on the mid-Atlantic coast. One of the barometers of the season are the cornfields around here. Through May and June, the corn stalks are growing until they are fully mature in July. We get some nice corn then, tastey silver queen corn! In August, the fresh corn at the farmer's market starts to become a bit more scarce as the corn stalks start turning brown. In september, they are all cut down, and the fields are readied for the next season.

Right now, I've noticed just about all the cornfields are brown as the weather is turning cooler with a series of cold fronts moving in.

During the summer, my water heater in the attic is rarely ever turned on. I will get a nice stream of 120 degree water in the evenings from the water heater because the water absorbs the heat in the attic. Cold water temp's are running in the 80's right now still cuz the ground is still warm. I'm thinking back to the wintertime when I turn on the faucet and get that chilly, cold 40 degree water that doesn't even hafta be chilled before drinking!

A cool Opelousas morning

I woke up around 6am to be greeted by 66degree cool weather. I even opened the windows to let some fresh air in the house. WOW! September's starting early. I love it! My Weatherbug says 70 and it is nice outside. I saw a few convertibles with their tops down (jealous) and some motorbikes as well. You know they were feeling good.

I can see my fireplace will get lots of use this winter.

Thursday put us in the record books for the month of August. There were 27 days this month that reached or exceeded 100 degrees. The previous record was 26 and that was 1951.

Blow it this way guys! It was 77 here in Pensacola FL this AM, however reached 91 today. The 77 was from a feirce storm we had last night.

cooler is coming, then we will want it to warm up some, right?

Steve

Was 91°F at 7:15 PM on my car (outdoor) thermometer, parked in shade.

Far as I've been told, the only "official" 100°(+)F day here thus far was in June. Dunno.

"Hey, if schedule permits, come on this way for a visit. Or you might have a better time in Bellville, checking out the new finds there.... :-)"

Then y'all could help me work on the GE Combo! Anyone up for a water valve rebuild? ;-)
