I see so many more Sherwood Green Frigidaire's than Stratford Yellow (ranges and fridges), that I'm wondering if I should prepare myself for a long wait to find anything in that great shade of yellow.  I realize both these colors were produced for only a short time, but it really seems like Stratford Yellow is borderline non-existent.

Even in later years and other models, it seems yellow was never a favorite color.  I could have outfitted a kitchen 10 times over in some version of turquoise or pink, but not yellow.

Come To Think of It:

Yellow was the one color you didn't often see in people's houses. A fair amount of Turquoise, yes. Some pink, for the really girly ladies. Later, a whole lot of Coppertone.

But yellow? It was mostly in magazine layouts, ads and movies. Not much in real life.

I don't know why. It's my favorite of all the late-'50s/early '60s colors.

I once had a 1958 Frigidaire tol washer and dryer. Sold it off to someone long time ago. It was a pretty set.

I saw an awful lot of yellow (not harvest) come in as trades. I remember a number of new homes built in my neighborhood that had GE built-ins in yellow...circa 1955. Frankly, if I could snap my fingers and turn every appliance in my home yellow I'd do it. I really love it. Viking used to make an attractive pale yellow. I'm not sure if they still do. I have no idea why people are so attracted to stainless steel.

fancy-schmancy Viking in yellow...I'm a guessin $$$$

Yes, I’m specifically interested in the Stratford yellow Frigidaires that were made for just a few years in the ’50s.  I know those are rare, but what I’ve also discovered is that yellow of any sort seems to be rare.  I don’t quite understand it.

And Hans, I can’t believe you don’t like yellow!!  I like all those ’50s colors.  I’d take a kitchen in pink or green or blue or turquoise--any of them, in any shade.  A recent favorite is GE’s cadet blue, but I know it’s completely hopeless to pursue that one.  We settled on yellow a long time ago, and I don’t want to replace a whole kitchen full of stuff to accommodate a new color.

I’m not terribly fond of the ’70s colors, even though I really try to give them a chance.  There’s just something really dull and dreary about them.

There was a 1954 40" Frigidaire range in that color that was for sale locally recently. I think the owner was asking $200 or best offer. If it had been a year newer, I would have been tempted to make an offer...

Phil, I saw that one too late to try to get it--plus, I’m nowhere near Canada.  I love the look of the 1954s, although I think I’m in a minority here.  It seems the preferred style is the more angular stuff that came after 1955, in all of the brands.  Designs moved from curves to corners, I guess.  I like both styles, and I would die and go to heaven if I had an all-1963 Frigidaire Imperial kitchen.  But our house and our overall style are a little earlier than that.

RE Yellow!

The reason I don't like it is because my Grandmother and Mother LOVED yellow and vomicado green, we ALWAYS had yellow cabinets and walls , and puke green carpet!!I saw enough of yellow growing up,...I bought a TOL GE range and fridge from 57...Donald and I looked at them about 3 days, he looked at me one day and said.." Do you really like these??"..I said I couldn't stand to look at yellow and if he didn't just love them they were gone....He sighed a sigh of relief and told me he couldn't stand them either!!!Small appliances are ok, but Yellow, Avocado, and Harvest gold are No Nos in our house!
