No golf course...

But there are several golf courses in the area that were frequented by Westinghouse engineers. They went public or shut down when WH left/went under. You may be thinking of Skybus which was a people mover Westinghouse tested in South Park, a county park in the southern Pittsburgh area some distance away. The county never liked Skybus, it kinda fizzled, and had the tracks taken down long ago so no longer any evidence it was there. Some other company makes what used to be the Westinghouse movers for airports, I cannot come up with the name but the technology still exists. I encourage people here to go to the link and find the petition and sign it to stop Amazon, that area would be much better as a neighborhood or some other business.

Jet.com was an interesting competitor, but I agree, when WM bought it I was done with them.

There was an interesting expose on CNN, I think about the Amazon Basics inexpensive electronic gear (charging cords, etc) and how they basically do -no- QA/QC on it, relying solely on the purchasers and the ratings. Algorithm, again. Some scary stories about how cra**y they are, causing fires etc. I had a cheap charger burn a hole in our carpet/hardwood one time...filled the house w/smoke and odor overnight.

Also saw a recent story on arbitrage using both online clearance stuff (the drop-ship mentioned above from B-B and B) and in-store clearance stuff (looking up then-and-there what it's going for on Amazon and cleaning it out).

I'm glad we've got viable alternatives to WM here in the midwest...I'll use Amazon for arbitrage in the other way (finding price errors on sites like Slickdeals). Fun to see how many different packages you can get in a single $25.22 order ;)

A little mixed feelings about AZ, but frequent shopper there.  Good example of why- Was updating my 1/2 bath a few months ago.  Was all brass fixtures from the 80's but replaced the toilet and the flush handle was only in chrome. Decided on brushed nickel, replaced all the accent stuff.  Went to HD looking for nickel sash lifts, did not see any.  Asked the HW clerk and he had no idea what sash lifts were and no they did hot have any.  Went to AZ and had it at my door the next day.

A few weeks ago I bought a new dehumidifier.  The drain connection was a hose connection, my old unit used a different method.  I have 50' of drain line, 1/2" clear plastic line. that runs to the only floor drain in my basement. Went to HD again looking for a fitting, all I found was an empty peg.  Their ordering system knew they low/out but no stock. Next day part was at my door cheaper than HD.

I am far from a fan of HD, avoid it as much as I possibly can and going forward AZ will get much of my business.  I am not a fan of how they treat their employees, but still prefer giving Bezos my money that HD.

I'm so ashamed.....

*LOL*

Broke down and finally placed an order with Amazon.

Needed a few attachments for Miele vacuum but wasn't going to pay prices wanted by that company directly or local dealers. FleaPay was first choice, but when searched on internet yesterday Amazon did a huge price drop for pieces needed. When free shipping was tagged on it just didn't make sense to buy from fleaPay. Oh and things will arrive by Monday or Tuesday instead of later next week. Amex is running a promotion that gives extra bonus membership points for things purchased on Amazon, so there you are...

Joined Prime because Amazon wouldn't stop pestering with free offers as attempted to check out. Must remember to cancel in thirty days if don't see us doing that much business with the place to offset monthly fee.

I'm an Amazon Prime user. While I don't use it more than once a month or so, the $13.60 I pay each month is worth it! The variety of products, the ease of ordering, the fact I can send the order to a variety of addresses and of course the SPEED of delivery makes it a great value to me! I even have a standing order for my favorite coffee! Greg

I've bought a few things on Amazon, but mostly what I couldn't find locally in stores or online. Cse in oint, my air return filters. I could buy from the 3rd party who produces them, but shipping takes an additional week to 10 days. Also, when I was getting my Cuisinart MultiClad pro, I had some gift cards that I used, particularly for pan sizes I couldn't source locally. And in some instances, prices were less.

I use AZ Prime video and music along with the free shipping and returns I'm satisfied. There are items I want to touch and I try to find locally, but that is getting harder to do.  Made good use of Prime wardrobe a number of times, ordered 8 items, tried them on, kept what I liked and shipped the rest back at no cost.  No charge until you decide what if any items you want to keep.

The Westinghouse people mover for airports.

I found out is made by the company Bombardier. I don't know if it is the one that makes jet airplanes. Schindler took over Westinghouse elevators and escalators. WH made a lot of things at one time but poor management ruined the company (that is what a lot of WH people tell me). Here is a video about a WH people mover.
