Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I remember there was a mistake made with the literature in my 1986 Imperial Seventy belt drive.I had an insert that mentioned this was a design 2000 machine. That I could probably use shorter wash times. It was confusing to me at the time. Only cleared up years later by this website. But it was truly a belt drive with the access panel in the rear, the double duty super surgilator, the snubber, and D shaped tub opening. Oh and of course the wooo wooo wooo wooo....

Design 2000/direct-drive was a large change from the 30+ years well-known Whirlpool/KM belt-drive design.  Much faster agitation (180 & 120 SPM vs. 68 & 46) with shorter stroke.  Deeper, narrower basket.  Slightly faster spin (640 RPM vs. 500/515).  Different operational sounds.  Motor/machine shut off completely when opening the lid during spin vs. dropping into neutral drain.  No visible recirculating lint filter.  Pauses in the cycle for motor reversing where there were none previously.
