So I was in WalMart over the weekend...something I never do but I was looking for something in particular haha. I browsed the detergent aisle and noticed they had some powdered Ariel...but it was different from the one I bought at Family Dollar.

The pic below shows the Family Dollar one on the left, which I understand is "USA" Ariel...and the one on the right is what they had at WalMart. It doesn't even smell the same and felt like it had a different texture. I had heard that they were no longer making Ariel powder for the US market, so is this new one the same as in Europe (or close)?

UK Ariel is better at removing stains, produces less suds, and has a more sophisticated scent. Having said that, I enjoyed using Mexican Ariel back when I had a trad top-loader.

Can anyone confirm that the bagged Ariel sold at Walmart is not identical in formulation to the Mexican version? Seems there was a discussion about this when Ariel first appeared on the shelves of the retail giant.

It is...

Definitely not UK Ariel, we no longer have any branded detergents come in bags (all boxes).

Also, our detergents are colour coded

Bioloigical - Always a GREEN coloured/themed box

Non-biological - Always a BLUE coloured/themed box

Colour Care - Always a PURPLE coloured/themed box.

Also, Ariel discontinued non bio some years ago, so no Ariel blue for us.

Also..

Our Ariel is P&G's TOL detergent, (it is directly comparable to your Tide).

So if the performance of this product is any less than what you would get from Tide...

Is it not Mexican Ariel reformulated and repackaged?

Cool...I'll pick up a bag to see how it works. I assume it's a different formulation than the European version? I know in Latin America they also sell "Ace" which is Tide, same packaging and everything, just a different name. lol.

Yes,,

Absolutely correct.

Detergent formulations are different across the world, taking into consideration water types, laundry cultures/practices, textiles used and even popular foodstuffs - stains that are most likely to end up on said populations clothes from foods that are popular in that country. And preferred scents.

The Ariel and Tide names are completely interchangeable to P&G, and you will almost never see where they have both names on sale in the mainstream market in the same country (can only think of Czech Republic and India, where this happens).

And due to different formulations, the name may not give much away e.g USA Tide is no where near European Tide, and UK Ariel is worlds away from European Ariel and not even really like USA Tide,

P&G usually have their TOL detergent, and then a second in line (e.g here in UK, Ariel is TOL and Daz in second in line).

However, to confuse matters further, our DAZ brand is sold in other markets in Europe as TIDE lol (on the back of our DAZ pods, it has 3 names printed on the back TIDE/VIZIR/DAZ).

But of course, this is not USA Tide.

We actually used to have Ariel, Daz and Tide on sale here in the UK, however, Tide went in the 70s.
