I ran across this owners manual today on ebay looking for something else I needed....

Its a newer style GE owners manual (late 80s to early 90s???) so I am asuuming it was built by ge... But is it for Mexico or somewhere else???

GE Stopped Producing Wringer Washers

In 1953 out of a sense fully automatic washers were going to dominate the market, so that is where they focused efforts. So highly doubt GE made or had anything to do with that Crosley wringer from such a late date.

Crosley is a brand name much like Kenmore is to Sears. AVCO Manufacturing Corporation owned Crosley (along with Bendix) but announced in 1953 it was leaving the appliance manufacturing business. In 1976 an independent appliance distributor group brought the rights for Crosley brand name from AVCO. The top loading washing machines IIRC are made by Whrilpool in their Clyde plant. Have no idea who made the wringer washers sold in the 1960's and 1970's but they were built in Mexico.

But I thought that Maytag was the last hold-out to build wringer washers.  They built the last wringer in 1983, 

 

I was also thinking that Maytag built Crosley as the local Maytag dealer had Crosley Air conditioners on their showroom floor. 

 

 

ETA:  I did a google search RE: Who Makes Crosley.  The Crosley Corp's web site shows appliances that look very Whirlpool, so the Maytag thought may have been correct.

Kind of assumed it was MABE since that is GE's "arm" in Mexico, but didn't want to put out false information.

Apparently wringer washers are (or were) still popular down there long after they faded out in the USA. IIRC a version of Easy Spindrier washers is (or again, was) produced and sold in Mexico also long after things stopped in the USA.
 
From what one has read

Both SQ and Dexter continued to produce wringer washers after Maytag announced it was ceasing production. Maytag did state at that time they would continue making parts for conventional washers for twenty-five (25) years. Production ceased for Maytag wringers in November 1983, IIRC. So new parts would have been still in production until 2008 in theory. However Whirlpool got their mitts on Maytag in 2006 so who knows.

Have seen late model wringers badged Montgomery Wards. They look very much like Wizard washers, but not sure of when they were made.
