Iron power cords should be 16/2 (16-qauge, 2-wire)

Lamp cords are normally 18/2

So hard to tell from the picture.

All-in-all, doesn't look like a travel iron to me.
Nor would I be enthused about using it until I had
taken it apart myself (or replaced the cord properly.)

No,vinyl insulated cords cannot take the heat-and improper guage cable in the cord as GOPROG points out."Heater" cable cords are available at most large appliance parts stores-that is what should be used. The vinyl insulation could melt and the wires short out if the iron is operated.the safett officer will put a "Do Not Operate" tag on this one until the proper cord is installed.

unclear

got a iron

Could be "gotta iron" as in needs to go do some ironing

or could be "got an iron" as in bought an iron.

??? am I supposed to be ducking or something?

Not only is a lamp cord unsuitable due to small gauge wire and non-heat resistant insulation, but it also lacks the rubber boot at the heel of the iron handle, which helps keep the cord from getting a sharp bend at the handle or getting under the hot sole plate. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like that iron simply has some electrical tape in lieu of a boot. Not good.

I remember once upon a time using an old iron with a frayed cloth cord. It shorted out at the handle, letting off sparks with a POP! and a nice blue flame. I was about 13 at the time and pretty shaken by the experience. As I recall the short didn't trip the circuit fuse (it was back in the day when we had glass fuses in the panel) but fortunately the short burned itself out and I was able to unplug the iron.

Oh man I need to press my reset button my brain has shorted out

Sudsmaster helped me get this iron on ebay

What is interesting is 2 other bidders bid on this and the owner cancelled the bids saying the iron was lost or no longer available
