My friend has said that her Whirlpool WTW4816FW3 top load washer she bought in January, 2024 is continuously draining and that the technician said it’s due to a bad control board.

My other friend is apparently having the same issue with his Whirlpool WTW4950HW3 washing machine. I’m disappointed in what Whirlpool’s new products have become.

Apparently these models were recalled.

Same goes for GE, but I do think that GE has improved recently but when they introduced the HydroWave they began to decline significantly, and the HydroWave machines were so bad that they couldn’t make enough money, and they were discontinued in 2016 for good reasons.

They’ll only get worse, too. All of the newer Whirlpools that have the six LED lights under the timer seem to be known for this issue, but I’m not sure about the fancier ones but those had control board problems in the past where the washer would just go right into drain and complete the cycle right after starting it. I’m pretty sure some models branded as Kenmore, Crosley, or Amana also get these issues.

I actually don’t entirely hate the VMW type machines, I actually own one myself (WTW4900BW0) and it never needed repairs earlier but recently it became really loud on the spin cycle which people told me was a bad bearing.

The matching dryer to the washer (WED4850BW0) never had issues and still runs like new. Both were bought in around 2014 as they are around 10 or 11 years old now.

My brother’s Whirlpool VMW washer (WTW4800XQ4) has a similar issue to mine as of now, he says it was bought in early 2013 and he recently had the bearing go out in it and he did say he had to change the suspension rods a couple years ago. His washer is loud on the spin cycle but it’s not banging anymore.

The older VMWs don’t seem as bad but parts like suspension rods or bearings often wear out over time.

I had this issue on my Maytag Bravos X that I bought in early 2011. Within a few months I noticed it happening on the power wash cycle. It would fill and then go straight into a drain. That cycle never worked correctly and the machine only lasted 2 years.
