Found a nice set of adverts on youtube with a Hitachi cylinder I neber knew existed.

Now I have a new computer I thought it would be nice to set up a thread where everyone can contribute their favourite or hidden Youtube adverts as they come across them.

this one is 5.44 into the set

My coveted all time favourite Hoover - The Turbomaster Electronic Total System.

We had this exact model (U5096)when I was a kid. Shame it got replaced with a DC01 in 1994.
Now they are rare as Dodos.

Creda and Bounce,

Always felt it was a shame that Creda (Hotpoint made) reccomended Persil and Comfort (Lever) in the wash and Bounce (p&g) in the dryers.

Recommended Detergents...

To tell you the truth, that style of phrase, "Hotpoint recommends ---", was a load of bollocks, because they recommended different detergents as the years went by.

I believe Hotpoint recommended Daz in the 60's, followed by Persil for a good few years, until Indesit took them over. Now they recommend Ariel.

Hoover was just as bad. The A3110 of 1980, mentioned both Bold and Persil in the User Guide.

Then, when 'Ariel Automatic' appeared on the market a couple of years later, everyone was recommending Ariel.

As a matter of interest...

...How would the Hoover UK Turbomasters (or for that matter, the UK Turbopowers) cope with a multi-layered HEPA-type bag, such as that fitted to Miele cleaners?

Has anyone tried it?

You can buy 'Unifit' replacement paper dustbags. They also make an Emergency 'SOS' HEPA-type bag that will fit various makes, by ripping the cardboard collar from the original full bag, and attaching it to this new bag via double-sided sticky tape.

I tried it with my Mum's Panasonic upright, and the airflow certainly increased.

I wonder how well a direct-airflow Hoover would work?

The only real way

to cut housework down is the luxury my ancestors had, Servants.

Of course there was the typical problems that came with slavery but my ancestors found that out the hard way. I have found that paying house servants is little better than owning them unless you are really lucky with who you hire, and how much you pay them. Even them it is a crap shoot.

And please for the PC police I am not advocating slavery.

I am pointing out that there is not an easy answer for the way to cut down on household chores.

Indeed I think many here have learned to enjoy what some would call "work". I would much rather be at home all day taking care of my house, home and garden rather than being at the office all day.

Working for a living cuts into my day. I enjoy to some extent what I do for a living (historian, archivist) but I enjoy my home more.

I wish I had the time and money to stay home and enjoy my home life.

The ads from the various companies have good theater to them but .....where would you rather be? At the job or at home?

recommended detergents

I remember many, many years ago, Simpson used to recommend Surf for it's machines, this was back when Surf was called "Square deal Surf".
I am also fairly certain that Rinso used to claim that all manufacturers of all types of machines used to recommend it.
Also if I stretch my memory, I think Wilkins Servis used to recommend Blue Torrent detergent but it along with W.S.disappeared from Australia about 20-25 years ago.
The only recommendation which has lasted was front loaders advising only Omomatic.
Cheers people.
Steve.

RollsRapide,

I was just saying the same to Seamus the other day about the Miele bags which would be great fitted to as Turbo Power/Master to slightly improve the filtration if one was so desperate but the high filtration H4's do a dandy job at emmitting clean air anyway - much cleaner than the air our Dyson DC01 gave out after 2 weeks of putting new filters in.

The DC07 Allergy I have under the stairs is useless at air filtering - the air emmitted always smells so stale its no wonder that so many kids have breathing problems if they are brought up around Dysons.

I do wonder though if its the air emmitted or just the plain fact that a Dyson wont shift the deep down dirt in a carpet that causes all these dust mites and the such to live etc.

AUSSIEPLUGS

I do happen to own a Turbomaster - I got it on friday as a late christmas valentines easter present from Paul.
He has spent ages searching local newspapers for one after I went on and on and ariston about my Mums, Grans and Aunts that I used as a kid. They seem to be so rare in the UK that they often go for 3 figure sums on ebay to collectors.

Here is a picture of it from Saturday morning when I got to use it properly to do a top to bottom house clean. Had forgotten how damned heavy and powerful they are as its been 14 years since I last used one it buggered me!

NOTHING else grooms carpet pile as much as these beauties!
The trodden down area from the hallway into the lounge has been worked over with my Turbopowers with not much luck. 2 strokes of this had the fibres back on end and fluffed up.

This is the U5094 which dates from 1991.
My Gran had this model which ran in production 1987 - 1992.
I remember going to Comet to buy hers in 1989.

Question for those on the other side of the pond

I was watching Cornation street today, as often as I do on a Sunday morning.
Is that a harvest gold Maytag in the background of the knicker factory?
What are the brands of washers on Corrie street?

Corrie

That is a Maytag in Corrie in indeed Harvest Gold!

Over the years there has been.

Rovers Return - Hotpoint Liberator

Gail Platts - Same Zanussi Jetsystem 1000 since the ealy 90s.

Des Barnes - Hitachi FL - See hitachi thread.

Liz McDonald - Creda made by Hotpoint.

Ashley and Clare - Servis Dryer now replaced with Tricity Bendix Washer Dryer

Dev Allahans first flat - Hotpoint Cassatta in Pistachio Green.

sure ther are more but I cant think.
Deirdre and Ken do have one opposite the back door in the kitchen but all you see is the washing basket atop.
Same with Sally Webster.

Ah the Hitachi was moved from Des Barnes old house into Danny Baldwins old place and in the Hitachis place was a Hotpoint Ultima Washer Dryer 1200.

I have seen the same washer dryer as clare and ashley's in sallys kitchen, but only in one scene. The next episode it had vanished!
lol

Ah The marvels of television! Now you see it, now you don't!!

Mad Maya who Dev was seeing for a while had a Silver Hotpoint of some sort too I do believe.

Kirk, Fiz, Chesney have had the same ariston washing machine for years too. Since the days of janice and les I do believe.

Sally Webster

Had the TOL TOL Turbomaster (Black Permabag), the model above my Mums although it didnt have the Variable power slider it did have the Permabag.

Those permabags are useless!

Dunno why it didnt have vari power and thus I dont understand why it was TOL?

Permabags...

...usually meant the top model cleaner, (Turbomaster Freedom).

Maybe the pricing point would have been too high?
