Sellers with the morals of a rutting boar....

That is a really heartbreaking read!  It's not uncommon, however. In my antique refrigerator hobby, I search out nonworking examples local to me to buy, fix, and flip for a few dollars.  In talking with people, you hear some really sorry stories.

One that comes to mind is a beautiful porcelain cabinet 1937 Frigidaire. It had been on Craig's List for months with decreasing prices. It was finally in the zone where I was considering it.  When I got to the seller's place, I learned that she was unloading it for $100 after a $2000 loss. She had bought it from a seller in Atlanta who claimed it had been restored recently by a famous company in northern Georgia, but they moved recently and their new home had no place for it. Sold "works as it should."

It worked for about a week before it stopped cooling and began running all the time. They were unable to get any consideration from the seller, and took it back to the shop in north Georgia where the previous owner had claimed to have had it fixed.  That shop told the owner that (A); they had never worked on it before and (B); someone had charged it with a wrong gas which had wrecked the compressor. It had apparently been charged up just before sale, and worked just long enough to enable them to rip off the buyer.

There are so many people who are just looking to take in money without any regard to providing value to anyone in return. It's so disappointing. It's especially bad when the victims are elderly or on fixed income. The lady I bought the Frigidaire above from was probably in her late 70's. Her son was there and helped with the sale and had helped tell the story. She bought it because it reminded her of her childhood.

This is why always use PayPal. Have only paid cash up front for one vintage appliance , my WP portable dryer. It wasn't huge sum, and thankfully everything worked out well.

There are good number of washers either being given away free, or for very little money on local metro Detroit area CL. If one lived closer would find a way to make a donation to poor soul who was scammed.

No, $200 may not seem like a lot of money to some people (it obviously was to the bastard that scammed this poor senior citizen), but for those on a very tight budget including on Social Security it represents quite a lot of money. This poor soul mentions in CL posting she/he "chose clean clothes over eating".

Yes, disgusting!

I serached him and there is one said person in Adrian, Mi. Facebook profiles suggest several aliases as well. Another is a former felon from Kalamazoo convicted of Methamphetamine production/sales. Both about age 38, so coulld be the same.
Not everything claimed on Craiglist is credible either though.
Adrian seems a long way to travel from Livonia for a washer for a struggling senior.

"Adrian seems a long way to travel from Livonia for a washer for a struggling senior."

Never underestimate what someone involved with or strung out on mess will do for easy money. Two hundred clams is still two hundred clams for very little work. More so if suspect in question had other marks in area.

FWIU meth is a particularly a bad scene all way round.

This happens way too often

My project car (pfp) used to be my grandparents, they took it to a sketchy mechanic and guess what! The oil (even though it was supposed to be 1000kms old) was black, my dad also took his car there a couple of times and then though “yep, they are sketch.”

Dealerships are also scummy places, if you buy a car from “2000” or “2010” it is very likely it would be from 1999 or 2009, also what happened with my car, dealership labeled it as 2000 meanwhile it was made in July of 1999.

People only want money now. The governments are corrupt, that’s why they make all of these regulations on cars/washing machine etc, not because it is better but because they want money. Take e cars for example, seems like they are good for the environment right? Nope, e cars have lithium which is horrible for the environment also the co2 footprint 1 car makes is huge, also need a new e car every 8 years as the batteries die. Bring back old washers and start using LPG cars!

Aren't some

regulations good for us? Cleaner air, water, controlled substances, drugs, food safety, etc.
If the Govt.s are corrupt, then so are the companies that lobby for these regulations!
Still, maybe these certain "freedom ringers" who want the Govts. totally out of their lives should move to China, or Russia, then cry about freedoms!
I know some who try only to support small businesses, but even most of those wouldn't be around without products or a service from a big business.
I wouldn't worry my head over it. It seems our days are numbered anyway.

Junk Dishwasher scam

I found an early alvocodo GE portable dishwasher on CL. There were pictures of the outside and inside And the hoses were pulled out as well as the power cord so that could be seen. Everything looked great! I paid two hundred for the washer and had it shipped from Penn.to upstate NY where i live. I don't know what twin dishwasher it was that the pictures were from but the shape of that dishwasher I got was a mess. The inside of the washer where the water sitting in the filter is supposed to be Was rotted right through so you could see out side of it. The door gasket was gone. The inlet water hose was cut from the unicoupler that hooks to the sink and the cord was all tapped up and that wasn't even done right and the racks were rotted right out. That certainly wasn't the washer in the pictures and the dishwasher was setting on the driveway when the movers got there and there was no one around. So anyway I paid 200.00 for the dishwasher and two hundred and fifty to move it. I wouldn't even sell it to someone for parts. So so much for those honest people. I hope karma bites them in the ass
