It's as good as official.. Sears Canada bites the dust.

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Once they close our local store all that will be left "in a dept store sense" will be  Walmart.  We've lost the Hudson Bay, Eatons, Zellers, Kmart, Woolco/Woolworths over the years.

I read on the CBC website that there is essentially nothing left for the Canadian employees retirement accounts that I assume they paid into. Sears deserves to go down and out and I will never go there again. Friends had a Sears Hometown Store, worked good until the new asshole took over took over, K-Mart next and it was cut, cut and you make less. They sold their store and never regretted it.

I'm not sure what happens to Sears retiree pensions, they could be gone or severely reduced. I guess it all depends on what a court decides who gets paid first..  pensioners or creditors.   I'm glad I'm not in that boat, being as railroads  are privately owned but federally regulated  they had to provide guaranteed pensions to all employee's much the same way as federal govt employee's .

"If Sears is still around I will search there..."--I can be quoted saying to two sales girls (to their giggling) at JC Penney...

Needless to say, at least Sears WAS there, and 2017 just wasn't the time to, for my halloween costume, be in the market for Toughskins Overalls...

I'm not surprised, but still very saddened. Holiday season is almost here and they couldn't wait it out. Feel really bad for the employees. I have a feeling the stores in the USA won't be far behind. I hope, at least, JC Penny's can hang in there.

Sears,R.I.P.
I worked at the Sears bump and dent in Kitchener 20 years ago. Got some amazing deals on stuff and got better hours than working at the main store.
What a shame. You would think with less and less competition they would have survived?
Going to unload the Kenmore dishwasher and watch t.v from the Stratford Sears store.

Got my latest washer and dryer from them at their scratch and dent stores here, got great deals and they worked great.
They probably will go like Radio Shack did, which also sucked.
I loved their tools and always made a few runs a year looking for deals on things and the catalogs back in the day truly were our wish books.

Sears Canada bites the dust.

Actually I go to Toronto all of the time. The Sears that used to be in the Eatons Centre is now Nordstrom. The Bay at the other end is now a combination of Saks 5th Ave. and The Bay. Go figure. In Guelph Sears tried to remodel. They even had several huge banners on the outside that said "Sears WTS?" Can't tell you how many versions of that one went around the block especially if one or two letters burned out.

I poked my head in our Sears yesterday and noticed they had Black Friday notices up on a lot of the appliances,, guess that won't be happenin.. And today I drove by and their parking lot was really busy.. yet the clearance sales don't start till the 19th.. not sure what's up with that in peoples minds.

Well at least she still has some health insurance being in Canada.. What she had was probably "supplemental" health insurance which covers dental, vision and all the sundry sort of things not paid for by your provincial health plan, like a wheelchair or depends etc.

Petek, being closer to Canada than any other state, I read CBC daily as I have relatives in Canada. I just wished we had whatever system you guys have for healthcare not having whatever we have left taken away by the swipe of a pen. Someone in Canada told me since my grandfather was never naturalized and my father was born there, I could be a dual citizen. and the last 9 months makes me wish I could go a few miles away and be with the nice people there, who are more tolerant, understanding and way more friendlier. I am pretty much in limbo not knowing WHAT that jerk does next. Go to the hospital, and send the bill to 1600 Pennsylvania in DC will be next.
