Hi Everyone!!!! We're supposed to get snow tonight so Garylicious is busying himself getting the outside of the house decorated. Since I have a pretty extensive lighted collection of Christmas decorations from 1908 to the 70's, I like to use them to decorate the house with. None of that dreadful new stuff for me!!! This first photo is a Noma lighted wreath with a halo from the 50's and a Paramount c-6 candolier from the 50's. I have the older wooden candoliers but trade them out every year for a little variety. Mark

the fireplace scene!

On the fireplace is an 18 light, Noma bubble light tree from the 40's. At the top is a lighted c-6 Paramount star. The tree is surrounded by a lighted fence from the 30's that is lit with c-6 lights. I have the older carbon element bulbs for the fence, but don't use them for fear of them burning out. When I get the new home built, I have a transformer that will transform the current to DC with lower cycles to prolong the lives of the bulbs and will use them then. They really do project a charming old world feeling when the originals are lit. There is also a Miller snowman with his snow shovel from the 50's and a General lighted santa not to be confused with the Royal bubble light santas that held a bubble light or a tree or some other ornament. Just makes the room cozy! Mark

And now.....

They're discontinued again. I looked all over Ann-Arbor/Ypisilanti and in Lansing when I was up there last weekend and NO one sells them anymore.

Apparently NOMA decided that they were a hazard or passe' or something and dropped them.....just recently BTW becasue last Christmas you could still get them...

I did see refill kits , but at 6.99 a light, tring to find a strand of bulbs with the proper sockets on them then purchasing that set and remvoving whatever is on that cord then adding the bubble lights...would be VERY expensive....

$68.00+ just to do a normal strand of ten. Yuck....

Oh well

Chad

Anyone know why they discontinued them????

Looks great Mark and Gary

You have a beautiful home, and it is nice to see the vintage displays up and running. I had a friend back in high school days with those bubble lites, I loved them. That fence with the lights is fabulous!

Can't wait to see the exterior pictures!

and finally, here's my sad, sad old creche. Another "family heirloom" from Kilpatricks in Omaha. The cow is missing his horns and one of the wise men's heads keeps falling off, but they are still quite handsome.

Dan,

I love the crèche and I know about the animals and the wisemen as well as the baby Jesus BUT I didn't know about the Amaretto!!! Now I know what I've been missing in my crèche all these years!!!! I guess that's what's meant by the Christmas spirit :-)

dalangdon---Man, that aluminum tree brings back memories. My Mom's allergies prevented us from having a real tree, so my Dad picked up one just like yours. We used it for years. I think I was in college before my Mom started using a green one. The only thing missing is the color wheel beneath the tree turning it alternately, blue, red, yellow and green...

.....more photos!

Unfortunately, my photo skills suck and I can't get a good picture of the outside. I'm going to try and take some tomorrow evening just before sunset with the lights on. Meanwhile, here is a photo of a late 1930's Nativity made by Noma. It is constructed of plaster and glass. Really beautiful! Mark

Now that's a light show

Nice fireplace tools, Dan. If I'm ever in your area, I need to inspect every inch of your house.

Frigilux, great job with those Christmas lights. I was sort of waiting for fireworks during the finale.

just set up ............

just set up the alum tree last WED with rotating stand, plays xmas music and color wheel ......

versatronic---Lordy, that wasn't my house! I just found the video at You Tube. I love to see other peoples' decorations, but a pair of snowman hot pads in the kitchen is the complete extent of my Christmas paraphernalia.

Mark the decorations are just beautiful. I love that fence with the lights. That lighted wreath brings back so many memories. You are so right everything looks so cozy. Terry

Dan, you look to have a fab view, are you facing the lake or Puget Sound? BTW,, your blue chair beside the fireplace,, I was in the Sally Ann the other day and saw an orange one, I raced over to hug it but found it was sold, I almost cried.

Pete, Actually, we don't have a view of either. Our house looks down onto the "lovely" Rainier Valley, and across the valley we can can see a much better neighborhood (Mount Baker) ;-)

BUT, beyond Mount Baker, we can see the Cascade Mountains and we have a fantastic view of Mount Rainier when it decides to show its face.

...the new bubble lights!

Kevin, Those are the new c-7 bubble lights. Available at Wal-Mart, CVS, Target and certainly by mail order. The old ones had a poisonous liquid that kids would break off the tips and drink. Different companies tried different fillings using oil, etc... but nothing was as good as the original. The other problem with the original Noma bubble lights was an additive that was put into the plastic bases, a fire retardant since the lights ran hot, that caused the bases to disintegrate. For this reason, they're hard to find (in good shape) and are about $10 to $15 each when you can find them. Every year the price just goes up! Mark
