It's cold, snowing, blowing... time for a game!

Lots of snow and high winds blowing it around today. It seems like 1/2 of New England is waiting for the power to go out! So, I thought maybe we could play a game.

Neighbors lose power so you invite them over. There are now 6 of you in the house- you haven't lost power. With what you have on hand, how many meals could you come up with? No going to the store- you can use whatever's in the house at the moment. And once it's used, you can't use it again of course.

Remember, you're feeding 6. I'll start since my freezer's pretty full.

-Chicken & dumplings w/mixed veg in the gravy
-Spaghetti, red sauce & meatballs
-Spaghetti, red sauce and sausage
-Corned beef, potatoes, frozen broccoli/cauliflower mix
-Chicken pot pie
-Mussels in white wine/garlic + pasta
-Chili
-Jambalaya
-Salmon, rice, frozen veg
-baked omelette w/ sausage & cheese w/toast
-veg/meatball soup
-waffles w/ strawberry/rhubarb compote + sausage
-Pancakes & bacon
-grilled cheese & tomato soup

I'm sure there's more, but I didn't feel like going to look.

How many meals could you come up with?

I'm with you Cuff, Illinois is sort of a long way off, only 2 days to get there. lol I once had a Copper Clad coal burning cookstove in the kitchen. The power was off and I was the only one who could cook and keep the kitchen warm. I cooked a meal on that stove for 8 people. It was fun. Gary

Back at the house, with two large refrigerators and an upright freezer in the garage, as well as a huge pantry, I could have fed everyone on my block for weeks.

At the apartment, with its smallish top-freezer Frigidaire and a tiny pantry cupboard, I'd be lucky to feed myself for a couple of weeks.

However, I'm good friends with the owner of a local restaurant, so if Western civilization falls apart or the power grid blows up, I'll be fed for as long as food can stay cold in walk-in refrigerators and freezers. After that, we'd probably eat a lot of soup and tuna, LOL.

I can make:

(From my slow cooker's recipe selection in the user guide) Turkey Pot Pie with Corn Bread Crust (though a lot of work & time, plus my celery the ingredients call for is looking tired & the tips broke off my whole carrots from a fall out of the refrigerator)...

Pork Chops

Hamburgers (from a package of ground sirloin in the freezer, that I wish I made right when I got the package home) with el-cheapo store-brand buns, or brioche buns...

Ground Sausage (Tennessee Pride!) with --????--

Lots of milkshakes and/or ice cream sundaes in at least seven-flavors of ice cream

Bakes Apple cobbler, strudel or pies

Sweet potato pie or even Chess Pie, for that matter....
