Snazzy! Sure is loud, but such pretty styling! ;-)
The Värde cabinet is totally handy. For all y'all (especially Toggles) who recommended trying this out, it's fabulous. It looks good, weighs enough (even minus the optional wall anchor strap) to hold the machine, and even comes with a wooden kick-panel of butcher-block for the front. I haven't tried portable-izing it, but it's awesome for freestanding installations.

Brand confusion
Well, my confusion all started when Ralph, David and I visited RedCarpetDrew this past weekend. I asked about the Frigidaire dishwasher, and he took us around back and showed us this one.
I noted that it sure looked different than the photos, but he's awfully persuasive...
(Alas, we just didn't have the space for it!)

Back home and working
The machine leaked profusely from the tub seal, but it was hard to determine why. There's almost no rust anywhere on this machine. What gives?
On investigation--when I removed the motor and pump--a fragment of the Bakelite had fractured, and water was pouring through this crack. Since it was an easy fix and no excuse to waste a good part on a simple repair, I JB Weld-ed it and put it back together. Easy as pie!

The good news
The SuperSurge machines are incredibly, wonderfully easy to work on. 60 seconds, and you can have the pump and motor out. Snap a wire harness, remove a Philips screw, and use your nut driver to detach the sump.
Thing is, they use speed-nuts to hold the pump in. Great ideas, mired by awful build quality. Even the door hinges flap like cardboard. Had they paired this type of engineering with a nice, porcelain machine, it would have been a real contender. This machine is so very much easier to work on than the spin-tube.
But oh my, it's noisy!

BobLoad pics to follow--we were able to fit a 13x9 lasagna pan (leftovers from the KitchenAid) in plus full rows of cups and glasses, plus bowls, plus GladWare, plus cereal bowls.
This has got to be the most capacious top rack EVER. And everything came out spotless--and damned sure better had after the amount of water this uses!
I'll get operation/loading pics tonight. And stay tuned for a special comparison of the 3-level verses the 5-level Custom Deluxe I had before. I promised Drew a special side-by-side and outlining of special Plastisol/steel issues a la Frigidaire.

A totally fun time
We had a wonderful time spending the weekend in Reno, and Drew was absolutely wonderful and great to hang out with. His store is phenomenal, and his knowledge endless! We're really grateful to him, and it was such a fun way to spend the day!

Nice setup on the new Frigidaire D/W Nathan. What year is it? We purchased a Montgomery Ward in 1974 that was made by Frigidaire and was a convertable either use it as roll around or build it in. It was the rapid advance pushbuttom TOL and haad a 12 level wash. Did a great job. We used it as a portable whie fixing up 3 different home we bought and sold and finally had it built in in 1977 in a new home and put the builders BOL GE in the last house we fixed up. A very good dishwashercleaned very well. I think it also had a spray on the top to keep the yibbles off. Was loud but all were back then. The top did hold lots and easy to load with my wife and 4 kids ran it at least once a meal. Used the sani wash and rince for the next two to be born for bottles and nipples for them.
Very nice looking machine, do you think that moving it might have broken that sump? Looks like it could be a weak spot (or one of them)on those machines.
The Ikea cabinet is perfect, I've looked at those before but they seem to only hold ONE dishwasher and can't be stacked!

It was great to meet you guys in person and give you the 10 cent tour. I am esp. gratified to see something not only survive a trip to the pile but quickly end up in a special cabinet and IN USE! There was actually about 30 seconds of seriously considering renting a U-Haul trailer to take the Kitchenaid as well... As it was, Nate didn't want the upper rack to bang around in the dishwasher so he had it in his lap the whole trip home. Below is him posing with the rack like a rare prize, which it is due to there being absolutely NO flaws in it!
I had the Frigidaire running when they arrived at the shop and had towels to catch the leakage. What was the quote? Oh, yes... something like "It sounds like pressure washing the side of a galvanized barn"... BUT the noise was justified by all the water being tossed around in there. And talk about water used! It filled almost to the bottom of the wash arm! It drained the water out very quickly and the drying element worked well, too. Sorry it came without the little 'trim ring' that goes around the timer to show the cycle increments. Hopefully, one can be found.
By the way, the KDC-17A is still here. You could always make another trip... You KNOW you WANT it... Hee hee hee!

Nate, you are gonna stop getting me all confused, a picture of a Kitchenaid, drift= Maytag, message= a frigidaire. #434619 is the new Frigidaire. LOL, took me a minute to realize what i was reading and seeing. Best of luck with your Frigidaire. Tell us some more about "super surge". arthur/alr2903

nice basket you have! and have fun with that frigidaire! i know mark michaels has some parts for them, i just bought some last year. i think i saw a pump plate like the one that broke on your's on e bay too recently, it might be on "marks merchandise" mark's e bay store. larry in parma has motors and pump seals, or he did last fall.
and yes, those speed nuts i didn't like either. i almost replaced them with more durable nuts and bolts on mine but alas, i left them! we shall see!
and finally, they are super noisy aren't they?! really bad! but hey, it was the 60's and every machine i have from the 60's is pretty noisy except for my kitchenaids. those g.e. mobile maids are noisy as hell too!
i just had a guy in rochester offer me a front loading frigidaire dishmobile that has the same wash system as your's and mine. i have to go to buffalo anyway this weekend to pick up a g.e. mobile maid so i'm gonna bring it home. i'm anxious to see what condition it is in.

Did you get the cabinet shipped to you?
I don't have an Ikea close by. I saw this on their web site but it states that it cannot be purchased on line. I've wanted one of those but wasn't sure how I could get one without driving 5 hours or so to the closest Ikea.
Also, is the dishwasher sticking out that far because you are still working on it or is the cabinet not deep enough to hold it?

It's sticking out because at that point I was still water-testing it and hadn't shoved it back in. The Värde cabinet is plenty deep to accommodate most any machine, and the stainless-steel covers on the legs hide leveling feet, so you can raise and lower the cabinet independently of the dishwasher--giving you even more flexibility.
Alas, the Värde kit is tremendously heavy and when you shop in the store, you have to get a team member to print you a ticket, which you take to the cashier, pay for, and then proceed to a separate pick-up area. It's not even in the self-serve bins. The weight is probably what prohibits them from making it available for shipping.
You can, however, check for availability online, to make sure the store has them when you get there.

Greg, I'm convinced you could just attach angle-brackets to the Värde enclosure and go to town. It would look great, wood kick panels and all! It might be a smidge difficult to load the top rack on the upper machines, but then again, a nice library ladder on rails is a handsome addition to any kitchen, don't you think?

Bob--My basket is in beautiful shape (*rolls eyes*), but my flatware falls right through in a few spots that are over the heating element and have some missing spots, so I'll need the spare from the other machine. Forks and spoons work okay, but knives fall right through and cause issues.

I'm quite happy with the Värde quality--it's heavy and solid. It does need attention and oiling, though, so be sure to ask for a bottle of Behandla oil before you check out (or else risk feeling like you do when you buy that toy that you didn't realize needed AA batteries before you tore the box open and read the manual). The booklet included with the cabinet explains what to do, and also stresses the importance of assembling your cabinet immediately and not storing it--otherwise you risk warping the top.
What you end up with is a wide freestanding enclosure of standard depth, but since running hoses to the sink is less of a pain in our kitchen than losing horizontal space on which crap can accumulate, the Värde fit our needs wonderfully--and looks very professional, which helps.
I remember someone even found a way to tuck the hoses to their KA away and run them along the backsplash so that the fill and drain hoses were always right there (or perhaps it was a unicouple). I can only hope to aspire to that degree of permanence
Probably a good idea, though--having the hoses draped is a bit of a drag aesthetically, and coiling them up isn't an option unless you're a fan of frequent mopping.
