Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Oooh, I'm all a-quiver! Congrats on getting such a cool range!

Once it's hooked up, you need to take a picture of yourself cooking something fabulous on it. Wearing your frilly apron, of course!

Roast Meter

While lacking that certain something of a Roast Master, the Roast Meter at least doesn't try to tell you that you need to cook everything to the point of smoldering, like the Roast Master does. Simple and dignified.

One would think

that the clock could be pulled and rebuilt.....

Looks awesome, Dan.

Hope you make many delicious dishes with it, and that it is always fabulous, indeed.

and - dare I say it? - toggle switches....

Although strangely flat. My mom had a 70's Tappan electric stove that had the exact same switches.

The oven light switch doesn't work, and I'm fairly bitter about that, but I think it can be fixed.

The switchs are, left to right, Rotisserie, Panel Light, and Oven Light.

Those little jewel light things are cool (the are, left-right, "Oven On", "Oven Ready", and "Controlled Top Burner On"), but I don't know if they work yet - won't know until the gas is working. I am having trouble getting them to come out of their little sockets. They are very shy. Or stuck due to grease.

Lawrence, I've never had a stove where the clock actually worked when I got it. The people at stoveclockrepair.com should give me a frequent user discount ;-)

This one has a manual/automatic switch that makes a very satisfying "chunk" when you push it.

NOW, we're cooking with gas.

You work that toggle switch, boy.

FABULOUS cooker, darling.

Methinks clock knobs are available "over-the-counter" in Homo De(s)pot. GE has a generic and (their) brand-specific parts display usually, IIRC.

Dan...

I think I missed your original thread on this.

Is this unit a Tappan?

And yes, those switches are cool.

One point, those jeweled lights (I am a big fan of jeweled lights, and I know that does sound odd) I would use caution. Their sockets may very well have tabs that must be depressed from the back to push the socket assembly out the front. You would not want to necessarily want to work them out solely from the front of the panel, methinks the have to be popped out from the back. I could be wrong, but I have seen this before.

I especially like the oh so 1960's "flair" (ahem, sorry!) on the knob to the right of the toggle switches. That is so cool.

Yes Kevin, this is Tappan Fabulous 400 gas range. I have the service manual for this, and it is maddeningly vague about those jewel lights, even though it gives exacting information about how to remove the toggle switches. From reading it, it appears that they come out from the front, but I'm not going to worry about it until we get the thing hooked up, because they may just work.

I love the jeweled lights as well. When I was in high school, I had a job of running the "city auditorium", (which was conveniently located in the high school), and it had a HUGE dimmer board each of which had a colorful jewel light, just like on this range. A few years after I left they replaced it with something more modern, which was a very good thing, but it would have been fun to have snagged some of those jewels.
