This is the last "good" KitchenAid Superba--made from 1995-1997. It is a model KUDS230B. I felt that they had finally perfected the pushbutton control with this model. When the door is unlatched, only the START button pops out--the cycle and options remain selected. So when, say, someone else opens the machine to add one more thing, they won't restart the machine with the Normal button when you started the machine on Soak & Scrub.
You can see that by this late-23 series, the upper rack has Whirlpool-style tracks (which I don't think is either a good or bad thing).

I know someone that had this exact same Dishwasher. It was the last of the good ones. It was also quiter than the previous Hobart models. I hope someone picks this one up.

I have this exact machine in my garage.
It is the last of the rapid advance timers. Talk about rapid!! Super fast!!
This is a very cool dishwasher.
My big beef about this machine is that it only has only one rinse, and no option for an extra rinse. The "kitchenaids" from this one on only had the one rinse. Don't feel good about that.

I too have this exact machine in my garage, although it has the black control panel. You are right about it only having one rinse. I thought that was odd. It also takes too long to get started washing as it sits there to heat the water first. I will be putting it up for sale soon.
I found another KA model that I like much better. It's even Hobart made. I will post more pictures of it soon. Ever hear of a KDIS21 ???

Never saw one in person, only merchandising material and downloaded the user manual. Very nice machine. And the Superba is nice too.

It doesn't have a separate start button, but the selected cycle doesn't pop out FULLY when the door is opened, making it easier to resume operation. I might assume the touch control model shown has an electronic timer, so the cycles start immediately and you don't hear the mechanism advance in different patterns for different cycles.
BTW: In regard to noise, I heard a very good explanation of why Euro dishwashers are so much quieter: The pump and motor aren't bolted onto the tub, usually separate fill and drain pumps are suspended beneath. It's the motor, not the noise inside that we really hear and why extra insulation only quites 'em so much. Ever hear a TOL Asko, Miele or Bosch running? You almost can't!

Hmmm. Kelly, yours looks to be a KUDS22, same as mine (except I have the almond panel turned out). The buttons on mine do pop out all the way. If yours don't, perhaps something is wrong with it?
Glenn, of course a trip to Dallas to inspect said- control panel issue could be worthwhile ;-)

Kelly's machine is a KUDS22.
The Superba linked to in chachp's other post (conveniently relinked below) is an early KUDS23. It's only outward difference from the KUDS22 are in the indicator lights (Heating Water, Wash/Rinse, Dry, Cycle Complete, and Please Wait). The white-on-white Superba linked at the top of this thread is a late KUDS23. All 23 series had a Whirlpool-derived pump, the early models had a 22-style control panel, and the later series had the redesigned panel similar to the 22-series Architect model. The early 23 series was made from 1993-1995 and are designated by a "Y" in the 7th digit of the model number. Late 23 series were made from 1995-1997 and have a "B" in the 7th digit of the model number. All late 23 models are monochromatic white, almond, or black. It seems to me that the changes between early 23 and late 23 were significant enough to warrant a new series number, but what do I know?
Incidentally, I'm working on a KitchenAid spotters guide with control panel pictures and brief descriptions that I hope to have done before summer is over, covering the 15 through 23 series. By the 22 and especially 23 series, KitchenAid was out of control with different model numbers, some models with only the subtlest differences. The late 23 series has something like 9 different models. Craziness.

These computer controlled machines are so rare because KitchenAid bought them all back. They never worked correct.
Do you have a picture of the selections closer up? I would love to see what it says.
Also, any pictures of the inside?

I had a 23, former roommate still has it as a matter of fact; wonderful machine. I bought it in 1996. The store already had some of the first "radically changed" one with the bulged out control panel and stainless tub, but I opted for the 23. Very quiet and cleaned well. Still has the hidden element and forced air drying.
The one with the LED display in the picture was called "Selectra", if memory serves. It was in stores about the same time as the short-lived "Patrician". That to my memory was the first time they'd derived from the traditional "Custom, Imperial and Superba" monikers.

I was told by the sales person that this model was also short lived because they had trouble with the computer controls and the board alone was about $450 to replace. I bought this in 1998. It is in the condo I sold and to the best of my knowledge still has not had a repair. This was a great machine. It is very quiet and cleaned everything I put in.

Probably tossed out during a kitchen remodel. No repair or refurbishing needed. I'm trying to get the benefactor to participate in the website, he's interested in old appliances, old cars, old kitch, retro in general, and has rescued and repaired several dishwashers and clothes dryers.

Wow, I am really excited now if that's true that I have a dishwasher that was pulled off the market. It has been well used and needs lot's of clean up so I apologize for the pictures in the before condition. It will look much better once I detail clean it. It appears to work just fine so this unit must not have had any problems. Patrick
