Just as I was getting into the groove, so to speak, of using a grated Ivory bar soap/STPP mix for front loader washing, I was shocked to discover that Costco no longer appears to carry bulk packages of Ivory bar soap...

OK, it's not earth shattering news, as I can still get it (in smaller, more expensive lots) from the local supermarket. But the Costco packaging was a great deal and I will using a great deal of Ivory...

Picked up some lemon scented Lirio laundry soap at the local mexican market today. Also got a bar of white Lirio; could not detect much of a scent on that in the store, but upon opening the wrapper detected a light piney aroma, not unpleasant.

Both beat the pink Zote fragrance, which can best be described as rancid baby powder. LOL.

Yep, America is a Dove town now.

I still get the twelve-packs on special discount at the market, though.

(I don't launder with it....just everyday use.)

I concur

The pink Zote does smell rancid!

And while the Alzheimers takes over what few good brain cells I have left....

Doesn't Zote make a white bar also? I have never tried it, but am constantly gravitated to the laundry aisle of every freakin' store I walk in to, sniffing everything.

But tonight....I went to bLowe's to buy another heater and walked over to the appliance dept. They had a Bosch FL connected (sans water of course) I was over there playing with it, and the lines and user guide were inside...I put it on *spin*...hehehe...klunk klunk klunk...I was lmao, as I walked away.

I know, I should be flogged and sent to AA. But at a cost of over a grand...they sure are made cr@ppy! (hate all that plastic)

New washers & dryers scare the bejeebers outta me!

Glenn,

It never would get up to full spin! I don't know about all that plastic and electronic cr@p. I just kept pushing buttons trying to get it to go into warp speed. The quality of plastic on the knobs...ick ick ick...I mean, it's not even good thick hard plastic.

Oh and I hope Jason doesn't read this (no offense jason!)...but that Oasis??? ick...I turned it on too...trying to get it to go into drain/spin. The tub flopped around very easily, and the tub is made of....what? more plastic? It certainly wasn't porcelain.

How do you get the agitator off to clean the fabric softner dispenser? I was yanking away. (Imagine, me doing this dressed in a 3 piece black business suit, LOL) I was half @$$ hoping a sales person would come over so I could terrorize them with a whole bunch of stupid questions.

I mean, it's pretty and all that....but my goodness the plastic on all these appliances nowadays!

Is it me, or is the plastic just getting really cheap> It feels cheap. Cheaper than what was out there even 5 years ago.

Ok, I am officially delirious right now. I should go to bed!

Kenmore Oasis HE (Don't forget, I have one too!)

The tub is stainless steel, with a plastic outer tub. There is no tub brake, since the motor is direct drive, and the entire assembly is hung from 4 corners, for superior vibration isolation. The FS dispenser in the HE model isn't removable, but it is flushed with hot water for about a minute when it dispenses, and in all of the 10 or so months of owning one have never seen any visible build-up. I think there would be some way to remove the FS dispenser on the agitator, but you might need a repair manual for that.

HTH!

White Zote soap

Hey, sudsmaster and maytag mom...I have seen both white and the pink Zote bar soap in a small section of our local supermarket that stocks products popular to Latino customers...funny that the labels on both say "NOW MORE WHITENESS!" (How do you get whiteness out of pink soap?) There is also a yellow bar with a name something like Tuayapec, complete with a Mexican/Native American lady kneeling at her washtub doing the wash on a rubboard.

Neither brand smells good...

I picked up a bar of pink Zote yesterday

3 for 99 cents, at some ghetto dollar store.

I noticed HEB carried both flavours (colors)
The pink smells like Ivory Soap to me.

I have a ton of washing to do this weekend, so will see if it works on little stains.

I may actually get the mandolin out and grate some...LOL

NOW MORE WHITENESS!

Essence lost in translation.Probably the nearest literal translation.I think of it as "Cleans better. Brightens better. Whitens better."

IIRC the present tense in English works just a tad differently than in other languages.

Try to explain the difference between "MAKE" and "DO" (HACER) to a Spanish-speaker. DIFFICULT.
Try to explain the difference between SER "To be" and ESTAR "to be" to an English speaker. DIFFICULT
Try to explain the difference between "HEAR" and "LSITEN" outside of English. ..... Ca ne va pas (doesn't "go") i.e. work.

My ex who was born here and only lived in PR for ten years still asks "What wrong with you" (Que te pasa) Rather than "What's the matter" I had to insist and carry on to get the shade of meaning across and the habit changed. *LOL*

NOW MORE WHITENESS! Maybe just more optical brighteners?

Toggle,

I'll say!

For an example of something gained in translation, consider this:

On bar of Lirio laundry soap, the list of ingredients in Spanish is:

Ingredientes: Pasta de jabon, Silicato de Sodi, Perfume y Color.

The English "translation" is:

IN gredients: Coconut oil and Tallow soap. Sodium Silicate, Sodium Hidroxide [sic], Abietic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate, Coconut Fatty Acid Diethanolamide, Perfume and Dye.

Espanol sure is a compact language! :-)
