I just came across this James in Utah. The listing says "Sugarhouse". I'm not sure if this is in the Salt Lake City area, or Logan (NE Utah).

Listing reads: Antique Dishwasher 1952 - $150 (Sugarhouse)

1952 James Automatic Dishwasher, Geen body Clear Top Stainless Steel inside, comes with a 22 page manual.

I hope somebody can rescue this machine. It would be a wonderful addition to your collection. I already have one, and if I was closer, I'd grab this one up too.

Mike

AAARGH!

Why Salt Lake City?? I would love to nab one of these James machines...

Sorry to veer off-topic a bit here, but didn't some early 60's Tappan dishwashers have the 'screw drive' propeller wash system like the James did? I never saw one up close, but I remember seeing old ads that had an impeller and rack config that was very similar to the James.

It was...it was...

The Tappan dishwashers used a rotating cylinder to fling water at the dishes like a tire flings water on a wet freeway surface. It would also stop and reverse direction so that it could basically wash the left, then right, sides of the machine.

It's an idea that belongs in the "I leave the Plexiglas door on it and run it when company's over" folder--from what I've heard from those who have found them, the action is...anemic, shall we say.

And with its truly random-loading pattern, you could enjoy the excitement of dirty dishes in almost any configuration :-)

i found one of those tappan dishwashers with the roller

instead of a spray arm in 1969 in the trash. i could not believe it could wash using that set up! guess it couldn't from what i've heard several times here.

hey, jim the trucker could pick that dishwasher up for anyone who wants it. he told me he will pick up anywhere in the country!

mike (dishwashercrazy) you should buy it! you know you want it!
