Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Ok now i am not sure.. If i had the mechanical ability to fix things i would just keep washin with it so to speak... But i dunno.. Who made these?? Tried to find them in an old pennys catalog, but no luck..

Here's the message the owner of the machienes just sent me:

Hi,
I am sorry but I can't test it at this time as the set is on the other side of town. I am going out of town tomorrow and will try to check it out when I get back (in the next few days). I believe you can retract your bid at this point. It is not easy for me to hook it up in the beginning and that is why I said I do not know if it works.

How cool!

I think you will find these machines were made most probably bu Panasonic in Japan.

I have the exact same dryer it was sold in Australia as a westinghouse. In the 70's early 80's Westinghouse sold smaller Panasonic/National machines under their own name, as well as the National versions of these machines.

Very cool and very simple machines that are easy to fix.

Twin tub washing is lots of fun.

IIRC, Montgomer Ward like Kenmore is simply a brand name, and not the manufacturer.

Seller clearly states items are labled "made in Japan", this would rule out Norge, who made washers and dryers sold under the MW brand. Another member owns a set similar to the one pictured, and IIRC they were Panasonic/National made.

Listed this sale the first time it was offered, and would advise any member bidding to contact the seller and find out just what sort of condition the units are in. His auction copy states he does not even know if they work.

She can't even figure out how to hook them up #1, #2 she don't recall where they came from, out of an estate auctions hse thought.. Plus she is headed on vacation until the end of the auction.. I plan to do futher reserch, but probably will retract my bid, simply because i am mechanicly impaired and i want things that work, so my dad can look them over first and He can figure them out (which he does quite well) and i also want more info.. She did say they where in reasonably good shape. But thats all she could say

I am retracting my bid, so who ever on here wants to take a chance on it go for it.. I am a little to leery of something thats missing its hoses (the two supply hoses are hooked together in a y garden hose fitting) and that may not work.. I love them and would die to have them (i am workin on my basement pics to come by thursday), but i just can't make sense out of her answers or emails..She only knows the obivous..

Just To Be Fair

Seller did state in her auction copy that she did not know if the units worked or not.

Ebay's policy cleary gives the three vaild reasons for withdrawing/retracting a bid, and changing one's mind is not one of them. You need to ask questions before you bid on an item not after. Seller could if they wish make trouble for you on eBay since you did not follow through with the second half of the reason you entered for retracting a bid (entered incorrect amount); when one chooses that reason you are supposed to enter another bid for the correct amount. It is really only used for when one bids something like $999 instead of $99.

She actually told me to.... She wants whomever buys them to live near her.... Thats fine.. I am a 7+ hour drive (which mind you i don't mind)but i just don't wanna get over my head..
I still really like em..

My grandmother had the twinny. Hitachi or Toshiba made it. I'm pretty sure it was Toshiba.

IIRC, the main wash is quite long, with 4 deep rinses. The user is not expected to spin the load after each drain.

The washing action is quite vigorous. The cylonic action would often ride dangerously high in the tub before reversing.

The pump cracked and leaked, which was the dimise of the machine. Grams could not find a replacement in NYC in the mid 1980's.

That dryer is adorable!
