Built by Sanyo

This is a compact portable washer that was built by Sanyo in Japan through the 1970's and 1980's and sold under the GE / Hotpoint / JC Penney badges, possibly others.

Here is RedCarpetDrews video of a GE badged version....

20.00 is worth the fun of these machines.....I say grab it....

some are basic one cycle machines....others have more options/cycles and such....

some claim they tangle clothes....oddly enough, it does a decent job of cleaning...

you have to think back in that time frame, may not been the best, but sure beat going to the laundromat....rolls to the sink, and was automatic....

A current split tub version of it and yes, they do clean good.

This has a separate spin drier that really pushes out the water fast.

$20 how could you say no. It will probably be gone before you get there.

These (and similar) were very popular in Australia. They were cheap and very reliable, they are very prone to tangling, especially if overloaded. There was also a larger version, called GE 600N. Earlier ones had the spinning disc pulsator (tangler) the later ones used a reduction gear in the bottom to drive a flattish agitator, they called a pulgitator. (cross between pulsator and agitator.) These reduced tangling and were a very good washer. Hitachi had their own badged versions too.

Wilkins Servis also had a similar machine, made by Toshiba. Philips had one too, I'm not sure who made theirs, maybe Sanyo??

Australian made brands Hoover and Simpson came out with their own machines like this too, made locally and not quite as reliable.

The Hoover Premier was one, it became a very good machine eventually. (early ones very flimsy.) It washed exceptionally well and seemed to last.

I have a Sanyo version. Can tangle terribly but spins like a son of a gun. Mine doesn't spin between wash and rinses either. What a gyp.

I would love to but I have a lead on a Frigidaire 1-18.
I finally got my Moms 2003 G.E. Harmony washer after it has toured with all the breeder family's. Nothing has ever broke on that machine. I have a Cheapo Hotpoint washer that cleans but that is about it. My Townhouse is not that large ..
I don't have the room for that Jc penny washer I would much rather have the 1-18.
If somebody wants it go for it ..

RE: Pumper and no spins between wash and rinse

These machines would sudslock if detergent were present as they started to spin so they only did  a spin after the final rinse.  Friends had one and one developed dermatitis from the left over enzyme detergent in the wash and on doctor's orders had to rinse everything in a second cycle. If he had known more about doing laundry, he would have just set it for a deep rinse or two instead of a whole duplicate cycle.

There was a revised design of this that John showed me where the pump and fill valve alternated to help liquify and remove the detergent froth as it went into spin.
