So, Jeff drove up to Milwaukee tonight. He met me at work, just as we were closing the store. He came in, and we had some "after hours" demonstrations of Hoover's new products... The "Z", the "Ultra Light Weight", etc... But there was one machine in particular that struck his fancy and after giving it a run around the store--he had to have one (especially with my employee discount making it so much more appealing).

Please welcome the newest addition to Hooverland, getting its maiden voyage here in Milwaukee...

A brand spankin' new 14" Hoover Conquest...

my first Conquest

Who needs one of those brightly colored plastic vacuums when you can have a CONQUEST??
In all the years they have been around and I have been around Hoovers, this was our first formal introduction, and it was love at first glide across the carpet!
What I always thought to be a clunky commercial-use-only machine is actually a very maneuverable, quiet, powerful cleaner.
Fred's mom has this Frizee carpeting, and the Conquest just glides across it, and really grooms the nap quite nicely. I can't wait to get it home and see how much of Jack it gets off my floors!

I to have seen the Conquest-nice machine-Have seen the guts as well-a vac place in another area where I lived worked on lots of them.Perhaps one of the few plastic vacs worth consideration. They are powerful and reliable.WW Grainger also sells them.also like the selection of bag "options" for these machines-a cloth dump bag,Dirt cup bag,or a cloth outer bag that uses paper inner ones. What type bag does your machine use?

Conquest

Looks a solid sturdy vac,

Is this a power drive, just looking at the large belt at the back.... Thats a slim belt for the agitator drive?? never seen one so thin...

Happy vaccing.

p.s. The name "Hoover Conquest" will get Uk vac fans overcome with excitement....its the name given to the Hoover Cylinder in the 60's, and not many about,

the best part is:

Its still a REAL honest to goodness Hoover too, made in North Canton as well.
the bag I got will use either a shakeout inner bag, or regular Hoover Type A bags, I'll probably use the paper bags, just because Jack sheds so much.

Its not self propelled Mike, it uses a two belt system to drive the agitator. I was really surprised at how it glides across the rugs, when it looks so clunky.
It also packs quite a WHOOSH!
More pics to come today before I head back home.

Quiet?

I had never understood the conquest to be a quiet machine. ive never used one. what does it compare to, noise-wise? and how does the heavy object trap work? thanks

Jeff I am really happy for you! Looks like a really well made machine. Is there any way that you can use attachments with it? Have fun!! Terry

Conquest sounds and

The Conquest sounds somewhat like the old Concept One did, however the motor is ball bearing so its quieter.
There's so much "whoosh" sound from this Conquest its hard to tell what it really sounds like, but Its certainly no louder than a Sanitaire.

I did play with the "Z" some, its different thats for sure and certainly original. I tip my hat to Hoover/Maytag for something totally new and different.

Karcher Vacuum Polisher

This is the first really cool looking, totally retro looking vacuum/polisher I've seen on the market here:

I like the idea Hoover Conquest is still made hre in the US-thought just about all of Hoover's commerical products are still built in the US.Wonder what will happen when WP takes over?
Like the idea that the bag on your Conquest can use either paper disposable bags or a cloth inner dump bag-you get a choice-used a Premier years ago that was like that at a radio station.Poor thing finally died when it ingested a screw or something at a transmitter site.busted the STEEL fan and broke a hole in the plastic housing-the noise it made sounded like a pistol going off.I ordred a Royal to replace the Premier-actaully it was a Mastercraft built for them by Premier. At some point I am going to get a Conquest for my collection.Sounds like a decent machine.

Hi All,
It is so good to hear people promoting the Conquest. I've had one for years, and I love it. It's quiet, powerful, well built, and definitely not a "disposable" vacuum. I used to use it at my former church job all the time, holds up like iron and did a fab job, better than the Sanitaire because the suction kept up, and half the noise. Keeps the bicepts in good shape, too! I have only needed to replace the carbon brushes, and the belts last forever.

On the...Conquest...

Hi,

The very last machine sold by my old store Hoover Factory outlet #890 was the Hoover Conquest sold five minutes before close December 31st 2003.

Being the last machine, I can rememeber the buyer being a posh restraunt...or the nicest one in the area at that time Tomato Bros. on Grand River Avenue..final cost was $349.95 plus tax. I'm really unclear of what Jeff paid, nor is it my buisness..but the one sold differed from his purchase in that it also had the clear dust cup like some of the other Commercials in the line at that time.

Why I look back now, and have to laugh quietly was that the place that bought that "last Hoover" thru my store, was the same restraunt that only a two months previous...I was told of the "big things happening" at Hoover and that plans were underway to continue operations there, renegotiation of my lease and a modest pay increase..by a very convincing, yet shady roadman and my branch manager.

P.S. I had to drive BOTH of them back to their hotels because BOth of them were plasered by the time dinner was over.

Ah memories. Good cleaner tho. I met my old boss Dallas there for dinner two weeks ago. And while I diddn't seem them using the cleaner..I was told by the manager that it was still cleaning well for them...yet still again I turned down a invite to go back tot he cleaning are and "see it". Possibly for good reason that I have yet to ascertain.

Anyway good luch with it Jeff. I just remember the thing being as heavy as a 90's series cleaner?

Chad
