I was at Lowe's today buying window sealer.
I wandered by the dishwashers and lo and behold, there was actually a 3 rack Maytag there!
I looked at it and I know this machine gets very mixed reviews, but I really liked it!
It doesn't look like there would be many loading issues at all!
I saw that there was probably only room for about 12 plates (12 place settings?) but that's not a big deal.
The big deal is interference between racks, and judging on my dishes, that wouldn't be an issue.
I really liked the idea of being able to toss cookie sheets and skillets in that lowermost rack.
Both tiered racks are adjustable up or down, so that will help.

I think I found my new dishwasher once I get a house.

Anybody have any real time experience with this machine?
Am I just being clouded by cool looking but function-less engineering?

Check carefully on the inside, left side of the DW door frame for the model/serial sticker. If it says "Maytag, Newton, Iowa" your good. If it says "Maytag, Benton Harbor, Michigan" it is a Whirlpool in Maytag clothing. Don't wait too long to buy one; the Newton machines are getting scarce...

Maytag built dishwashers are not being discontinued...only the washers and dryers. Maytag is continuing to build their original design.

I checked out the 3-racker when I bought my Maytag DW in November of '05. Decided I'd rather have the extra height-space in the 2-rack model. Also, Consumer Reports reports it doesn't clean quite as well as a 2-rack model.

They certainly are unique, though, and if I didn't have so many huge and oddly-shaped items to wash, I would have probably purchased a 3-rack model.

CR

Why do I have a feeling CR didn't like it because they loaded it wrong?
I've read tons of reviews where people do hate this machine because they don't load it properly, and the spray arms get blocked.
I have a feeling many of us on this site would not have problems with loadability, as long as we have compatible dishes of course. I can understand if you have unconventional, artsy dishes, where they wouldn't fit well.

I have some very large dinner plates (they don't get used all the time), but it's mainly my very large pots/pans/baking sheets/5-gallon plastic containers (mainly for brining turkeys) that always lead me to a dishwasher with a lot of headroom between the bottom and top racks.
