But alas, only one speed and a little rough around the edges, but it does work and will clean up well!

Did SQ machines such as this control the speed through a clutch or a multi-speed motor?
Also, what year is this one? Looks mid-60's to me...

Single speed blues...
This machine was found at an estate sale, along with another 70's SQ washer in the garage. The house was a "storage" property for two old guys that did auctions and sales for many years. Most of the leftover items from their sales went into this house and garage and another old building near downtown. The basement was crammed full of old toasters, radios, mixers, you name it, but most of it was in horrible condition. The washers I brought home were filthy dirty, both had frozen pumps (common with stored SQ's) but otherwise worked OK. This very rare 3 speed model, from the late 60's, had some DIY (do it yourself) work done on the motor which left the motor non-functioning. I took it to a motor shop here in town and they were able to fix the shaft end-play but I've not been able to get the start switch to function until tonight and then it only worked on two of the three speeds. The delicate or lowest speed blew the circuit breaker, so in the interest of time, I put a 1 speed motor I had into the machine just to get it working for now. I don't have a wiring diagram for this washer so it maybe that I don't have the motor wired properly so if I have some extra time before the convention (ha!) I will play with it some more. Speed Queens are such fun machines, it will be an interesting one to have running (in the garage) for everyone to enjoy.
