As some of you may remember from my earlier posting, the only scrap yard on the Island closed about 5 weeks ago. Since that time I have continued to accept appliances for disposal. I've been piling them up in the back room, hoping the scrap yard crisis would soon be resolved. I just charged a lot...
Well, now its been 5-6 weeks and my shop is getting to the point were I can hardly work, there is so much stuff. As I write this, I await a trucker to bring me a 20 foot shipping container. This evening, my sainted Dennis and I will be playing a huge real-life game of Tetris, to squeeze as much junk into that container as possible. Even though my shop is cramped, I don't have enough to fill the container myself, so I've contacted others who have a few pieces to go too. On monday, the trucker will take the container to the dock, where it will be shipped to an appliance recycler on Oahu (Honolulu).
The county or the state is still horsing around about getting a scrapyard. There is supposed to be a facility opening up here in Kahului. The citizens have many objections to this proposal as the site is a block from the ocean and next to Kanaha Wildlife refuge. Meanwhile, the gulches and cane fields are filling with old appliances and junk cars. Welcome to the Best Island in the World!
Gotta go-container is here!
