Regarding the Ebay auction of the Frigidaire parts. The seller has advised the buyer that several of the club members have been calling with long lists and requesting specific parts that are on the Ebay auction. The auction states ''complete'' parts inventory and that's what the buyer bought. Heaven (and legal) help those (the seller and the snake) that tries and get any parts out of the warehouse since it was a COMPLETE auction of the parts. We have photos of what was on the shelves. Never in my wildest dreams did I EVER think that I would have to write a note like this. And NO the winning bidder wasn't me, but I will certainly back the winning bidder. Mark

perhaps these inquiries were made in an attempt to get an idea of the specifics of the inventory? if i was bidding, i would want a specific idea of the parts included. in any case, i imagine the seller would be solely responsible for safeguarding the merchanise until delivery is taken. is the sellers integrity in question? and if the worst is true, SHAME on you! if you wanted the inventory you shoulda bid!

the problem is....

....the seller has been bombarded with requests for parts (with the part numbers) by several of the members of the club, to be sold off on the side, so to speak. Because of this, the seller now thinks that perhaps his inventory was more valueable than he thought when he listed it on Ebay, which is going to cause a real problem since all the seller is interested in is the money. We have pictures of the inventory. So, the seller has been put on notice, and hopefully the people that are contacting the seller aside from the winner is too. Mark

i just read the original thread (Laundress). i now understand why and how messy this might get. Yikes!

Personally I am not involved in this in any way, I didn't send any parts list and I'm not interested in any of those parts because as I been collecting these for over ten years and I've stockpiled enough to keep all of my Frigidaire stuff going for the rest of my life. With that said I'm reluctantly going to put in my two cents here because I don't want this getting out of control and turning into a big war on our website.

Mark may I suggest that you help this mystery buyer in any way you can and get him or her down to Mississippi and get this stuff out of there ASAP and I mean ASAP like tomorrow, and I'm not kidding. It seems like there is no time to waste now.

I do not want this situation spinning out of control and making for any bad feelings going around here between members. The buyer won ALL those parts fair and square and Steve was rightfully so to buy those beautiful machines as they were not part of the parts auction.

Enough said about that now. A big congratulations to the mystery buyer who ever you are.

Well I did warn you guys about this, didn't I?

While it is rare, there is every chance the seller may balk at completing the deal (it does happen),and there is not one single thing anyone including eBay can do about the matter. The winning bidder can post negative feedback, but eBay's TOS clearly state they cannot force a seller to complete a transaction. Taking money and refusing to ship merchandise is another matter.

Next time one stumbles across something like this, may just leave the auction to it's own devices; if a member or members find it on their own, so be it.

Said it before: softee, softee, catchee monkey.

Robert....

...the person that won the auction IS going to make the parts available to anyone that needs them, and that's why I encouraged him to bid on them. He can keep his machines going, and hopefully everyone else's too. You and I both know that there are lots of machine parts out there, but ask the members if they have a part, and NO ONE STEPS UP TO SAY THEY DO. (like the 1-18 jet cone agitator that is needed by a member.... I KNOW of three members that have extras...but do you think they would part with one???) IT's just SAD. When I asked about the Kelvinator boots, NO ONE HAD ANY (except Greg, and he only had one left for a machine that he was rebuilding.) Several weeks ago though one turned up for another member that requested one by another member that I HAD ASKED SPECIFICALLY. Anyway, just sad. Mark

As I said in the original thread, I am in need of some parts for my WO-65. However, I've not contacted anyone directly, and I don't expect to have access to anything unless a public offer is made by the buyer. I hope there's some kind of security effort in place!

When I asked about the Kelvinator boots

its the same with vacuum collectors. the only difference is, when it comes to a rare part, you really cant expect too much. its good to have friends that share an interest, but rare appliance parts are like currency. if i know where to find extra parts, i will gladly share the info, but im not going to hand out truly rare parts. god bless the truly generous, cause you cant take generosity for granted. im with Robert, hard feelings are not what this forum is about.

more than sad

This is more than sad - this is just plain disgusting. It's a seller's market (consider that in big capitals and bold) not a buyer's. Gosh, I sure hope this was just an anomally. If this is the way things go around here all the time, I might as well look for a brace of screaming queens down in some dumpy Denver bar when I return to the 'States. At least they don't pretend to be anything else.
For what my newbie-two-cents are worth: The next time something great like this comes up, 'tis probably best to just quietly seal the deal and then, if you like, offer the stuff to the rest at a fair price.
That said: I joined this group because I like vintage machines and the very interesting stories to be told on this site. I am very much looking forward to getting to know several of you; the e-mail correspondence with many of you over the last weeks has been great. (Sorry I've been a bit lax the past few days, have been doing double duty as examiner all over Bavaria. Promise to write back!)

I agree with most of the things you said Mark but parts are a very precious commodity and many of us have put in years worth of hard work, time, money and energy searching them out and not depending on other collectors for them. I personally believe that parts should not be sold or given away on a whim; I’ve learned my lesson about that years ago, unless you have quite a bit of any one part, more than you could possibly ever need. Kelivnator boots are a perfect example, I have two extra Kelvinator boots in my parts stash, but I also have two washers that use those boots and eventually they will need two boots to replace them, these machines aren’t getting any younger and I want to be able use them for the rest of my life. Now I did recently find a third boot and I did give that boot away to a member who needed it for his Kelvinator, but will I be giving away any more Kelvinator boots when I down to only two left??? Of course not that would be ridiculous. If I had 20 boots in my parts stash, I certainly would have sold or given away 15 of them, but its extremely rare that someone has an “overstock” of any one particular part. The fact that you couldn’t find any boots caused you to do a very smart and honorable thing, you went out and have new ones made, that was just ingenious and the best possible scenario to this whole situation. Now you have enough Kelvinator boots forever and will never have to worry about those again, a lot of us were very impressed when you did that.

My point here is and it’s just my personal opinion through experience, but I’m sure other old time collectors would agree, there are a lot of options out there to finding parts, none of them are easy and it takes lots of time and dedication. Depending on other collectors for getting your parts should be used only as an absolute LAST resort.

Robert, I agree...

Yes Robert, I agree. But. If I have parts that I know I'm not going to be using, I certainly offer them to someone that needs them. There's several collector's that have quite a stash that you and I both know they will never be able to use, and will most likely die with them. What's the point in that? You had some Kelvinator boots too??? LOL!!! However that WAS NOT THE POINT of my message. The POINT was, DON'T try and undermine someone that has found something by telling the seller that you would have paid more for the item. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, THEN B I D ON IT! Mark

Now this right here REALLY pisses me off and gets my blood boiling. I'm glad the parts stayed in the club, but that's just the point: THEY STAYED IN THE CLUB!!! Why does ANYONE feel like they have to contact the SELLER for specific items AFTER THE AUCTION HAS CLOSED WITH A DEFINITE BUYER??? This lot is supposed to be a huge inventory of parts with lots of surplus items, so why not contact the buyer afterwards with said requests? I'm sure there's a Frigidaire tub wrench or two in the lot that I desperately need for future occurrences, but are I going to constantly email the seller with innane requests for one?? Of course not! I had the same thing happen to me back in '04 when I bought the Bendix; the idiot 2nd bidder contacting the seller that he wanted it!!! Why not just respect everyone and their wishes??? Ain't that difficult, people!

Anyone who has been doing this deserves a little 1-18 Jet Action on their heads...

You said it Mark! I agree with you 100% that's what auction sites are all about anyway.

Ok Boys, Simmer Down

While only a "junior" member of the club myself, we must remember there are many members who rarely post (if ever) but do have access to the wesite. Free to read all the posts and though they do not contribute in those terms, never the less are "members". Do not think, or rather would hope that we none of us who regulary "chat" would sneak behind another member's back, after he/she won an auction trying to cut a side deal.

The above not withstanding, if something does happen poorly for the winning bidder due to contacts from members seeking deals, I for one will cut them without hesitation. Only thing worse than liars and tattle-tales are sneaks IMHO.

Forget "1-18's" their heads, someone get me a horse and a rope. *LOL* (In a pinch a flatbed will do)*LOL*
