Once again it is August and this is the month when a good percentage of the original upgrade renewals come up as we started the donation upgrade program in the summer of 2010. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was kind enough to give a donation to the site and continue to be upgraded members. Automaticwasher.org and Vacuumland couldn't exist without the donations and I'm thrilled that a large percentage of the original upgraded users continue to upgrade three years after I started the program. The site is now essentially 12 years old, it continues to grow and get better and better and it couldn't be done without all of the donations and wonderful posts from you all.

Once again a big thank you!

You're the one we should be thanking, Robert! The community you have created here is worth more than it's weight in gold (harvest, of course... LOL).

Thank you for all the time and trouble you put into the sites, the documents you have scanned and giving a group of collectors a wonderful point of reference and information.

Hubby, on the other hand probably rues the day I found this site.. LOL

And I "3rd" what Paul C. (and Paul C.) said........

Thank you Robert for EVERYTHING you have done to date with AW.org!

However...... I also BLAME you for what has turned into my very large washer & dryer collection!!

Had I never found AW.org, I would have never learned about ALL the different types, brands and styles of washing machines, nor would I have the large collection I have today, OR any collection at all!

So yes Robert, the different friendships that have grown, the fun I've at hosting and attending Wash-Ins and my washing machine collection are ALL YOUR FAULT!

Thank you so very much!!

I second the thanks to Robert, it takes lots of behind the scenes work to make these communities thrive. A years worth of AW support for the cost of a few coffee's is well worth it.

Indeed Tom, as you pointed out Jeff started the Yahoogroups (eGroups at that time) email group "classicappliances". That group went online in September 1999 and was start of many connections in the vintage appliance world. That group still exists today on Yahoogroups and lists a membership of nearly 700 members although its largely inactive. Automaticwasher.org has effectively replaced that group with all the extra forum features and great activity it has spawned.

Honestly and cynically

A few dollars per year for a reliable, well-maintained, always perfectly working, and ads-free website are a more than fair effort, in my opinion. And I intentionally do not mention the fun and pleasure.

But I also like the fact that the website is also open to non-subscribers that can freely enjoy it with only some minimal and perfectly understandable limitations: this also makes this website valuable and worth.

No -- Thank YOU Robert!

Reply #1 from Paul echoes the sentiment of all who continue to renew their upgraded status.

It's hard for me to come up with any other site that demonstrates such (seemingly) tireless dedication from its webmaster.

Thank you, Robert for everything you have done and continue to do to make this fabulous site what it is.

Robert:

Give yourself a little credit - the value is there.

Due to interactions stemming from AW.org participations, I have all but two of my "dream" appliances. I have acquired things that would have remained pipe dreams forever were it not for this group. Plus, ephemera I would never have been able to locate affordably is mine for a small fee and the downloading time from Automatice.org.

Still looking for just the right Amana fridge and an Ironrite Model 95, but they'll happen.

You're welcome Robert!

A small correction on what Phil says about the Yahoo groups.

At that time there were Yahoo groups and Yahoo clubs. Jeff started first a Yahoo group. It didn't get very popular. I was the first member after Jeff started it. Because it didn't become very popular he founded the Yahoo club. That was where the older members all came together. This club was the prerunner of the website that Robert founded. To make things more complicated, Yahoo turned the clubs into groups and in that process (IIRC) the first group disappeared and the club turned into the second group. So the original egroup doesn't exist anymore.

End of historical rant. LOL

Just remember, Robert, that you opened the door for this...

If it hadn't been for AW, I'd have never met such a bunch of neat people. AW has opened my eyes to the many appliances and facts I didn't know and opened my mind a bit more to the diversity of my fellow AW's and their customs, dreams, hopes, desires, viewpoints and personalities. I will freely admit to feeling like I've grown more as a person learning from what I consider to be another family. The close friends I've made here are more valuable than a Maytag's weight in gold as is being able to consider YOU a friend.

All this happiness, knowledge, personal growth and friends to boot with the added bonus of involving major household appliances for a (too) small donation. Where the heck else can you get a better bang for your buck? Robert, you're the best and a huge thank you to Fred for sharing you with us while you spend all those... enjoyable... hours (days?) of programming to provide a home for us.

Drew

P.S. Thanks for taking the blame for the size of Kevin's (modest) collection when a few of them actually came from Nevada... LOL![this post was last edited: 8/12/2013-19:47]
