Well Guys & Gals, set your Sky + & your Tivo`s for a date with Adam Hart-Davies, in "Just Another Day" a 3 part programme about the Science & Technology of Everday Objects....based on his Book published last year....

ITV London contacted AW site early this year asking for appliance collectors to work with, I didnt respond at the time due to my dad being ill with 2 H/a`s & pneumonia, (he`s fine now) but they contacted me saying they had seen my photo albums and the producer was in Liverpool and could we meet, so he called and was like a "Kid in a Candy Store" so a few weeks later he brought a film crew along with Adam, and the result of that you will see on:

Thursday 27th September, (this thursday)
8.00pm on Sky History Channel, number 529

They picked a selection of Laundry machines form the 1950`s to 1990`s, and then filmed vacs from the 1920`s onwards...the team also wanted to build a simple model of an Upright Cleaner, based on the Hoover Model O, using a desk fan in reverse and other bits , It actually works...AND at the end of filming they gave it to me !!!

Heres a trailer clip for the programme:

I hope the show makes it over here somehow as I'd love to see it. BTW I see you have a Kenwood major? on your countertop. I just found a stainless bowl for one of those recently.

Who's the handsome man of lead actor quality? Mike, I hope some day I will be able to see this programme!!! Very proud of you even if I can't see it yet.

Mike this is just fantastic!!! I hope that we will be able to see it on the web at some point. It was so good to see you again in Omaha!!! Terry

WOW Mike!!!

Thats such amazing and fabulous news!

I cant wait to watch it. We only have freeview but thankfully the history channel is one of the channels you get so im going to be setting the recorder. Sounds a really interesting programme so am looking forward to seeing it. Will be great also to see some of your machines in action.

Nice one Mike!!

Mark

Hi Mike, congratulations! I remember you telling me about this on the way to Omaha. I sure do hope we can find a way for all of us on this side of the pond to see it! Maybe you can YouTube some of it for us after it aires?

Very Excited! :)

Mike! This is great! :) Well done! :)

I can’t wait! :) Sky+ is already set in both rooms in case of failure! hehe :) Come on, made-in-UK Thomson Sky+ boxes – don’t you dare fail me! hehe ;) (Yes, they really are made and engineered in the UK! :))

My Mum and Dad will love to see this, too. :) They’re not enthusiasts quite like me, but they are interested. :)

Take care. :)

Regards,

Carl :)

well its on now and I can't watch it - live with too many people and majority vote goes unfortunately.
Please, please someone post it to youtube. pretty please!

paul
p.s is there any archive footage at all? how much do you see of the keymatics?

I remembered +1

Went downstairs - room empty.

Settle down - get as far as the changeover to vacuum cleaners, having briefly seen the wonderful lightshow that is the programme change on the A3008 Keymatic and

'can we watch Mock the Week?'
......aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

What did I miss?

Paul

Wow! :)

The programme was great, Mike! :)

Well done! :) I really enjoyed that. :)

I had to have almost complete silence whilst watching (hehe ;)), but Dad knew almost all the appliances, both vacuum cleaners and laundry machine, as he used to work in retail and some repairs in the 1970s. :) He kept pointing them out! :)

Mum also remembered the dreaded ‘tangle’ in twin tubs, so she had to point that out, too! :)

A great programme – and not just for us enthusiasts! :) My parents, who have a greater interest than most parents (hehe :)), liked it as well. :)

Will say more later. :)

Regards,

Carl :)

Here's Mike's segment!

The Show was too long to post complete, so I've just uploaded Mike's washers and vacuums.

<object width=425 height=350><param name=movie value=></param><param name=wmode value=transparent></param><embed src= type=application/x-shockwave-flash wmode=transparent width=425 height=350></embed></object>

Enjoy!

Si, that was fantastic, thanks so much for putting this up for us to all see!! How long was the entire show?

Washers n Vacs!!

Hoovers!!
Simon, many thanks for posting the programme, I want to know what they did with the other 7hrs filming..LOl...I did ask but alas its on some cutting room floor, which was a pity because they did a great vid of all the lux cylinders, from the Z5 through to Z65...and the Hoover Keymatics as well as the Servis MK2 twinny...

That DeskFan MK1 was a hoot, and it actually works, albeit not like the suction or sound of todays machines..

I sat there watching and couldnt believe how I sounded, dont think it sounds like me at all..or does it?? ...I watched it with my family, who all come from a good old Northern town with the best rugby team..(Saints) theres nothing like family & friends for bringing you back down to earth with a bump..LOL..my three yr old niece was so upset, she couldnt work out "Why I was sitting next to her, and was on the telly at the same time"...

It was really enjoyable making it and seeing how it was all filmed and hung together, heres to making our own next time with more washers n vacs footage...

Cheers, Mike

Seven hours down to nine minutes? Ouch...

Oh well, that's editing for you I guess!

Shame they didn't show more of your Keymatics, hope you get a chance to do an in-depth Youtube of them at some point! And the poor old Supertwin didn't even get a look in...

You came across great though Mike, does anyone think they sound like recordings of themselves? That's why I've stopped narrating on my Youtubes, self-consciousness lol.

I'm sure us collectors would be able to do an EPIC production! Do you thinjk you might make it to Alistairs, by the way?

Si

Back to normal

Hi Terry, the programme was the 3rd of three, one hour each, based on his book he published last year...my bit was 10 mins of a one hr programme, and they spent 7hrs filming...all on the cutting room floor...pah!!!

Paul, hope you get to watch it on sunday, will have the full dvd next week, and Si`s link is just great...

Carl, glad you enjoyed it, and would love to hear you dads experiences about retail etc... and you have to love those Tanglematics...!!!

Brett, no tv experience just plenty of salestalk..LOl

Simon, thats interesting about voice, because I lov the way you speak on the vids, its very soothing and informative, and yep, I`ll be at Al`s, wouldnt miss it, I`ll bring the 6023 & the DeskFan MK1.You know I`m sure we could build a very informative tape with us all and our machines etc...

Cheers, Mike

Oooooh!!!

We have another TV star on board!! Indeed a pity they didn't show more of your washers. You have so many interesting machines, they could do a whole show about them only.

Are you sending out pictures with autograph already?

Take care,

Louis

BTW, nothing wrong with your voice! LOL

Filming

Hi Louis Thanks for the voice vote!!!AND yes we need more washers...they did a great job with the Keymatics, but alas all on the cutting room floor..

The guys mentioned on the vac forum we could do a mini film with everyones appliances, now that would be a programme...do it ourselves next time...It was fun, and would love to build on it!!!

Cheers, Mike

Thought this was FAB - well done on having such a fantastic collection. Despite the 'tanglematic' theme he had going on, I don't care what anyone says, there is something unique about the Hoovermatic Twin Tub, particularly those older models with the blue spin lids. I can't describe what it is about them, they have an almost organic aura about them. I know that may sounds ridic but can't find the words I am looking for at the moment. Could spend hours in your kitchen!!!!!
