I got in a šŸ—‘ļø Whirlpool WTW5000DW3 washer (made on 14th week of 2021) with bad motor bearings, a bad drain pump, bad suspension rods, a stripped basket hub, worn gearcase splines, wallowed out center sleeve, and a bad shift actuator. also had dings and scratches.

This is probably the most problems I’ve ever seen in a Whirlpool VMW washer, and it’s only 4 years old. Wow.

The cost to fix it is over $900, not fixing it, going to scrap this without parting it out.

I also got in this Kenmore VMAX 110.26132411 washer (made on 4th week of 2017) and a Whirlpool WTW4900BW0 washer (made on 3rd week of 2014), both came in with bad bearings in the gearcase but these can be parted out since they have many good parts.

I got in an Amana NTW4516FW1 (made on 4th week of 2017), this one has a bad bearing in the Gearcase and bad suspension rods. Roaring and banging. Scraping this too.

At this point I’m liking the newer GE’s over the Whirlpools. GE Has cheaper parts and don’t have the same control board issues.

The newest Whirlpools will constantly drain and throw an F3E1

That Whirlpool I got in is probably the most problems I’ve ever seen in a junk washer.

And I got a few more roarers today. So many bad gearcases in this load.

One is a Maytag MVWX700XL1 (made on 31st week of 2011). This one was roaring very loud during spin cycle
Maytag MVWB835DW4 (made on 42nd week of 2019). Roaring on spin cycle, bad bearings in gearcase.
Amana NTW4605EW0 (made on 49th week of 2015), roaring on spin and bad bearings in gearcase.
Whirlpool WTW4800BQ1 washer (made on 30th week of 2014). This one was roaring too. Bad bearings in gearcase for this one.
Maytag MVWP575GW0 washer (made on 45th week of 2017). This Maytag Commercial had bad bearings too, the machine with supposedly ā€œpremium bearingsā€ is roaring. Yep.

Got so many roaring machines today.

The description sounds like that machine has been abused.Ā You should post a photo of it.

In Whirlpool’s website. Price of parts for that washer (WTW5000DW3).

Motor: $255.41
Shift actuator: $64.58
Basket hub: $27.94
Gearcase: $258.07
Suspension rods: $140.94
Drain pump: $206.82
Neu Basket Bushing: $22.59

Your total = $976.35.

There are other sources than WP for WP parts.

A source I often use (which may not be the best $ that can be found for each of the items):

I frankly don’t believe it

You need to post pictures of the appliances, the model and serial number and the failed parts.

You can also check with whirlpool to see where the machine was registered. There’s no way a machine could operate at all with that many bad parts so I don’t frankly believe it.

And what in the hell is the point of complaining about scratches and dents?

You already posted about this machine in another thread there’s no point in taking up all this bandwidth to post the same thing twice.

There's a reason most refurbishers are targetting GE top loads over Whirlpools for refurbishments. The cacophony of failures a VMW can have are so wide, its hard to get them refurbished and back on the market at a price level that makes sense in the refurbished market.

Sadly, the Whirlpool VMW's made since about 2017 have had iterative "Improvements" causing more frequent failures souring a lot of refurbishers. Its very sad, since up till maybe 2019 they were a fantastic standard of refurbishment.

One of the parts must’ve failed last. I’m guessing the last part that failed was the drain pump. I’m guessing the shift actuator would let the drum spin but not agitate.

As if all parts failed the same time it wouldn’t operate. I’m guessing the motor bearings were noisy which is unusual - usually it’s the transmission bearings that fail on these. My own VMW now has worn bearings.

Mine is a 2014 model, WTW4900BW0. According to the S/N it was manufactured on the 9th week of 2014.

To get to the bearings, you can actually drill out the rivets in the transmissions to get to the bearings but that’s hard to do and these transmissions are not designed to be serviced. You can get transmissions for cheaper than they are on Whirlpool’s websites. Ducttape mechanic actually had a Whirlpool with bad bearings and he actually swapped the shaft from an Maytag and fixed it himself. And the washer he was working out was the same one that I have.

The newer VMWs seem more problematic but are also less prone to bearing issues. You don’t see nearly as many new VMWs with bad bearings as the older ones. I’m not a tech myself, but if you are a tech, there’s a chance you’ll see a newer VMW with bad bearings occasionally. Most of the newer Whirlpools with bad bearings are the VMAX style.

The bearings rarely fail on the bigger drum VMW units - like the 4.2 and 4.3 cu ft models - but it can happen. This poster didn’t say it had bad bearings they just said it had worn splines which is more expected for this style.

Also, that VMW said in this post must’ve been abused or poorly maintained.

The pre-2018 washplate style VMWs with the 3.6 to 3.8 cu ft drums like mine seem especially prone to bad bearings - but it also seems common in the older porcelain tub agitator models too.

Before Whirlpool launched the Cabrio, VMW, front loaders, and VMAX style machines there weren’t many reports of bad bearings. You didn’t see it on belt drives or direct drives. For a while it was the Norge-built and Ananatag type Maytags and the GE’s that were bearing failure prone.

GE has been prone to bad bearings for a LONG time, since the 1990s. Their model-Ts and HydroWaves were very prone to it, and their GE stackable units, but the newest GE’s seem less prone. But you do occasionally get a newer GE with bad bearings, kind of like how you occasionally get a newer VMW with bad bearings.

As for suspension rods, Whirlpool agitator machines of all types seem very prone to suspension rod issues and that’s probably the most common failure with the porcelain tub models. The stainless models seem less prone. The older models especially have the tensity to shake violently during the spin cycle, eventually damaging the tub and putting a hole in your drywall. Most VMWs don’t explode, that’s mainly an issue with the newer GE’s and the older Samsungs, these days it’s mainly GE and LG that explodes because Samsung actually improved their suspension system so they don’t explode.

In fact, my brother has had his WTW4800XQ4 shake VIOLENTLY until he changed them, and now it’s the bearings that are wearing out.

Also, I never had to do a washplate but some of these washplates are extremely hard to get off and sometimes it will break off the transmission shaft or the shaft of the washplate will come off. Sometimes you have to break them off.

The 4.2 to 4.3 cu ft VMWs are very prone to drive hub problems and issues with the center sleeve. Good thing Neu has introduced a basket bushing to finally fix this, before it was introduced you had to get a new tub.

The bigger drum VMWs are also known to shake and go off balance.

The newer VMWs have the continuous draining issue but I discussed that in a whole thread.
