Stack of shirts wasn't going to get laundered by themselves, so it was time to get busy.
Got a bar of vintage Fels Naptha soap from my trusty stash (hidden in my secret hiding place, along with a box of Fels Instant, and bluing cubes/dolly blue sticks), and went to work
Nothing cleans shirt collars, underarms and cuffs better than Fels, and it leaves that frech clean naptha scent. So after a rest in the soaking tub, select areas were rubbed with Fels and "soaped" then allowed to sit for a bit, then laundered.
One does take pride in seeing one's family having the cleanest shirts in the area!
Find using Fels as a pre-spotter then laundering with detergent rids one of the numerous problems encountered with using pure soap for launderng. Though vintage Fels does have more "detergent" like chemicals than other soaps, including the version sold by Dial today, IMHO the Purex version is tops.
Can tell the above method is "better" in that there never is a trace of soap scum rising up in the first rinse water. Something that always happens when using straight soap,even with liberal dosages of STPP.
