Well, my bf David and I went to a launch here in Brisbane of Speed Queen's Australian TV and print adverting campaign.

Free drinks, food, a viewing of 'Gone Girl' with Ben Affleck and BEST of all:

I WON FIRST PRIZE! A choice of the Speed Queen AWNA62 top load washer or matching dryer!!! WOO HOO!!

I don't really need the dryer so going for the washer.

I also had an interesting chat with the Business Manager who has seen the fully electronic SQ's shown here on this site before and told me the ones he's seen are slightly different. He couldn't say if Australia will get these models until late this year.

Some pics of a cutaway SQ and my prize certificate.

Cheers

Leon

Very cool. Are SQ washers really selling for $2000 USD in Australia, or is that just the prize amount?

WOW

Does that cutaway machine a working demo? Would be fun to see it dry agitate!

Congrats on your prize.

( I imagine the cost of shipping SQ's to AU is pretty high )

Wow Leon that is fantastic, CONGRATS!!!   I'm sure you will enjoy it!

FYI at the current exchange rate, that is $2000 USD.   WOW!

I'm sure shipping is a lot but, (for one machine yes, but for in a shipping container?) it can't add $1000+ for EACH machine!   Again, WOW!

Price of machine

Thanks guys for the thoughts, much appreciated!

@ Malcolm and Kevin: you've done some good sums there Kevin. I can get the machine delivered for AU$1600.00 at wholesale price. Even taking into account freight charges, customs duties and our goods and services tax (GST), you are correct: it wouldn't add $1000.00 to each machine: the importer is certainly making a tidy profit.

Malcom: not sure if the cutaway is a working model, they made no mention of it.

Cheers

Leon

There's nothing exorbitant about Alliance's profit margins. I think it's not so much that their products are overpriced outside our country, as much as substantially underpriced inside it. E.g. we paid under $700 for their TOL TL in '06 and even back then, it must have been something very close to their cost. No idea why they do this, maybe due to lack of shipping costs? Out of thanks to their home country? Who knows.

Export Units

Through the years I've purchased a lot of 220V/50Hz American built export appliances and have paid a very dear price each and every time. A 220V Kitchenaid 5KSS mixer will set you back some US$ 800, or even more. A "common" Whirpool TL washer will be $ 700, and I'm talking of US PRICES (that is, US delivery). Then you're on your own to export them to your country, having to add shipping costs and local import duties! And no warranty my dear friend.

No, the price of this Speed Queen washer sold in Australia is not high, I'd buy one with my eyes closed!

Congratulations!

Much as I often detract from SQ's choice of cycling on their Australian machines; For a completely free machine, it doesn't matter one bit.

I hope you enjoy this machine every bit as much as other members have, and may you experience, fun and hassle-free laundering :)

Again, congratulations on this prize. Perhaps a wash-in is the order of the day :P

I also see that our very own "Patronus absolutus" on all things Speed-Queen has tipped his hat; So I guess you've got the "Nod of Approval," as it were.
