Katrina and the Waves

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Well Jason welcome home. There's even a blow out of a party in your honor.

And btw, I stole your thunder in real life on Thurs. with the Katrina & the waves.. (I'm walkin' on sunshine weeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllll0)

Yikes...I'm watching The Weather Channel and it's expecting to hit Texas as well. Galveston I know will get it.

In other news, I'm seeing a ton of fork lightning flashing outside, accompanied by heavy thunder. It's dripping, but not raining too hard...could this be a "pre-storm"?

Jason & Todd, head North and stay safe! I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the machines...

Well fellow members:

We have certainly had enough of all these hurricanes and tropical storms.

But,

Here we blow again. Last year Ivan did 32 thousand in damage to my home and property, Then Dennis in June of this year, another 8 thousand. I am really tired of it. In Pensacola, the attitude is not a positive one. We are fortunate that Katrina is going a little away from us, but we are still 7 miles from the Warning. So guess what. Tomorrow, (Monday) won't be fun. Rather scary at 160mph winds and a CAT 5.!! YIKES is right Austin!

Jason, did you get out of N.O. LA? If not, I hope you are safe and, well...................................

Steve

Not walking on sunshine.

And there's no telling where it will strike. Whereever it goes will determine who's gonna have a house to go back to Tuesday morning. Maybe it can just disentegrate at the last minute and not do alot of damange.

I have been thinking about you guys all day!! It sounds like this could really be a bad one. Take care and do keep us posted. Terry

Not to speak of all the snakes and other wildlife that South Louisiana swamps are known for. Watch out for those flyng washer and dryers with the strong possibility of flying refrigerators! Then if that doesn't get you, watch out for all the graves popping open and spilling their contents. This is what they mean by "HUMAN SUFFERING INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS".

I hope all did take the advice and leave! I saw on CNN tonight that over 1 million people have already left. The biggest evacuation in the history of the United States!

My thoughts are with everyone down there....

It appears New Orleans aws spared the direct hit and it's been downgraded to a Caagory 4. The phrase "best case of the worst case scenarios" is being used.

That NOAA report seems fake. I saw it on wwltv.com but not on the NOAA site. Some a$$hole wrote it.

Anyway, St. Bernard Parish (where I live) is getting pounded but hopefully our homes aren't pounded so bad. Just fixable and we can get on with life again.

It does seem that NO is now on the west side of the storm, which is usually the drier side of the storm, if you could call it that.
By seeing what actually has and is happening that report does have an "alarmist" ring to it. At least it doesn't say at the bottom "Make sure you send this to everyone you know!"

But you know you never know how much damage these storms have done until a few days pass since their arrival.

What did WWL say about that report?

Jason, the only encouraging comment I have had from Todd, long before this when other 'canes threatened, was that his house and his parents house went through Betsy in 1965 and came out pretty good. Although I hear metal buildings faired really badly. I hope it's not true there was a 1965 Hotpoint fountain Filter washer and a WI65 flying through the air--even the avocado 1/18 pair. ugh.

But I"m still fuzzy about where Todd lives. I'm pretty sure it's not near Metarie.

Todd's in Metairie. From the looks of it, he's underwater. our houses made it through Betsy too and the little piece of Chalmette we're at is above sea level so hopefully we're ok. New Orleans is underwater and it will be a while before we can go back.

This hurts sooo much. Todd's had soo much to deal with in the last two years. A miracle please!!! They don't need something else heaped on them. My heart is so heavy and aches.

No miracles at all

I was hoping before this morning that maybe the hurricane will minimize or go more to east, not happened.

I was hoping that maybe the damage won't be too bad. Oh well, the whole city's underwater.

I'm kinda hoping that since our houses are on a high spot in Chalmette didnt' get much damage. Well, I'm not counting on it.

I think God decided it's time for us to get screwed, so don't expect a miracle. He must have a warped sense of humor.

Well from what we are seeing on the news reports, New Orleans, at least downtown wasn't as badly hit as feared. Still, major damage and lots of flooding. It is the parishes west and north of the city that seem to have been hit hard. Lots of flooding and very extensive damage. Many people didn't leave only to find themselves trapped by rising waters. One poor man called 911 saying he had an axe and had worked his way up to the top floor of his house. With waters still rising he said he was soon going to chop though to the roof and would someone come get him as he "did not want to die". I pray for him and everyone else that help does arrive.

In Miss and Ala along the Gulf areas things are very bad indeed. Fire and rescue could not go out earlier because things were so bad, so those calling for help would have to "sit tight" until conditions improved, said one firefighter on the news.

What really sickens me is that looters have started in New Orleans. With power out and the city totally dark many fear tonight they will come out again like rats and raid the city. There is a dawn to dusk curfew, and police are doing their best, but things may get out of hand. Why hasn't the Guard been called out? Or, troops sent in to protect and keep order. News footage showed looter eariler going though down town New Orleans shops making off with whatever they could carry. Sad, very, very sad.

Everyone down that way is in our prayers and thoughts. Jason and Todd, we hope all is well and that soon you'll return home.

Texas is sending..

what's left of their National Guard to Louisiana today. That is correct, much of the Louisiana National Guard is in Iraq.

WalMart has donated $1m in immediate funding for flood relief.

I hope that companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron/Texaco donate large sums as well as these companies have massive operations in New Orleans and environs.

Talk about looters, a freind of mine is a stock broker and he said that he has been receiving "buy" orders from lots of people for stocks in companies that supply home construction materials and even carpet companies! Somehow this doesn't hit me right... making money off of disasters.....

for Jason

First, I was sorry to hear about the breakup. I know we don't know each other, but I so enjoy reading your posts, and you are such a talented young man! You're editing on the convention video's etc, were well worth the wait on this slow @$$ dial up connection...You have a great talent, and it will carry you far! :-)
I hope you are safe, and that there is no damage to your home!
I know yesterday we got some rain here from Katrina, and man, it was heavy...if only for a brief period.
I have been thru 2 major storms Hurricane Carla and Hurricane Alicia, and my god, I don't even want to go thru another one of those here (I too, live(d) in a trailer, *ahem* Manufactured home, lol).
Take care Jason, and know that you are in all our thoughts!

Just heartbreaking news

Watching CNN, and the Weather Channel, my heart goes out to everyone down there, I hope at least we can donate to Red Cross and other disaster relief agencys to help in some small way. My friend Brenda is still unable to locate her brother in Laurel, MS. Her sister in Golf Shores AL made it thru with just loss of electric, and her job for a while, as the building she worked in is gone, completely.
For those of you who will be having to rebuild, know we are here for you for support and whatever else we can do!
Scott

My thoughts and prayers to the people who have been devastated by this hurricane. I hope that the members here who were directly affected are safe and well.

I know this sounds harsh,...but things can and will be replaced, our friends and families can not. We will help in whatever way we can.

Pat

I'm praying for the citizens of New Orleans as well. On the news, the entire city is literally underwater (and rising), and I know it's going to take a miracle to get dry again. Hopefully the levees will be repaired and no more water will get in to cause more damage.

I hope everyone can get "back on their feet" soon and get back to normal life, no matter how long it may take.

I called Todd's cell this morning and was able to leave a voice message--which I had been unable to do since early Sun. morning. But I have no idea whether he is able to retrieve messages yet. I feel better that I could at least leave my voice for him to hear. As I worked today, I"d check up on the news via local stations & newspaper. I found myself crying many times.

I was on business in Orlando this past March and my co0-workers asid they saw signs (I think y'all understand why I wouldn't be able to so far away) that said, stll closed, because of Andrwe. So Austin, it is giong to take years. If Todd was able to get out with his parents and , as he told me, they'd always head west, he still maintains a Texas nursing license and he would be able to work & have some money coming in over the next several weeks.

As Jason indicated last night, Metarie is pretty much under water and I am about 100% that inclues Todd's house as well as his parents. Todd had a tremenouds amount weighing on his shoulders before Katrina. I guess part of the reason why I cried some today was because I know what Todd is facing him ahead.

And we can't forget Arthur (alr2903). He's there. With himbeing a nurse, I don't know if he ended up having to stay, I can't remember if/what hospital he works for.

And Carol, I went through Carla & Alicia. I never ever want to live near a coastline again. Two was more than enough. Especially being a homeowner during Alicia. Fortunately I was transferred out of Houston January, 1986.

The Land Of Water

Chalmette is totally underwater, our houses are up to the roof with water. It will take weeks before that water goes down and probably months before electricity and rebuilding begins.

I think living in NO is over for us. I'll get a job and a place here around Lafayette.

When you look at the pictures on TV it is very hard to keep from crying. Jason, Todd, and Arthur, please know that you are all in our thoughts. Please keep us posted. Terry
