That looks very much like the KD-10 that was in my parents home and in continuous use through the mid 1970s. I remember the red jeweled light that light up when the dishwasher was running. I think the dishwasher was unfortunately replaced because the metal racks (it did not have plastic or plastic coated) were rusting. The previous owners of the home had kept the owners booklet, which I still have, with the install date of 3/26/1952 noted!

For what these machines cost, I would have expected KA to have used stainless steel or Monel for the racks.
I've seen pictures of early Hotpoint dishwashers that had uncoated metal racks, but don't know if they were stainless, Monel, or plated steel.
The one pictured has the plastic coated racks. Was it a later version of the 10, or are they replacements?

The racks in the later-run 10s had the coated racks. I've got a manual for a 54 model that states the racks are coated in plastisol, yet the pictures are all of the stainless racks.
Paul, thanks for the clarification. I'm surprised they would have rusted if made from a good quality stainless. I have seen 400 series stainless develop rust spots, however.

Were plated steel, [ probably chrome ] and would rust pretty badly after much use, many KD-10s had the racks replaced with the plastic coated racks.
Some brands like Hotpoint used SS for the racks, I know the the early Sears DWs used chrome plated brass which lasted very well.

Thanks for clarifying the rack material, John, I was thinking that maybe I had been mistaken... but I seem to recall that they were starting to rust, largely at the 'joints' in the metal. But this was about 45 years ago...
