In gold! Found on Craigslist, "in excellent condition" and "ready to use".

Now I'm not naive enough to believe that about any appliance that doesn't have the original packing in place, but this one takes the cake!

Not bad cosmetically, but the unicouple had been removed and brass fittings placed in the cut hoses with standard hose-clamps.

Greg how is that top rack? I am willing to buy it if you want to part with it. I have been hunting for a rack like that for the KDS17A that I am restoring. So far the new wash arm support has given a new lease on life for the dishwasher.

God, I'm glad somebody saved a harvest gold portable KA today - saw a MINT, BEAUTIFUL KDS-58 today during the Waterloo Dollar Day clean up. It would have come home, but the help staff threw it against another machine and totally bent the door shut. I almost cried.

Nice machine Greg! Not like you need any more KitchenAid parts *feels a 17 series heater being thrown at him*

Door to Door Parts!

What did they do to the door? I have a spare 18 door if you want it.
And if restoring a machine, shouldnt all the parts be like the originals?
If so, then the top rack in the portable above would not be the exact rack that would go in a Superba model. You can adapt the adjustable height tracks to it but it would still lack the flex-o-dividers. But then again a good rack is better than a messed up one until the right one comes along.

thank God

i am not the only one who keeps buying these beautiful old kitchenaids!

looks very similiar to the kdc portable i bought in columbus a couple weeks ago, only mine does not have the energy savor button. and mine is white.

love the harvest gold! i just bought a kds-17a in harvest gold myself, can't wait to pick it up this summer!

thanks for saving another kitchenaid from the garbage dump!!!!

Long live those 17-a's

We had exactly that Custom dishwasher in a built-in model. I remember that brown "Energy Saver" button that was featured on the transitional models. Great dishwasher, although I preferred the older-style KDC-17 upper rack (pictured below) which held more. This one is the Superba/Imperial rack minus the adjustable tines. This was a quiet excellent dishwasher. IMHO the 17 series was the last great KithenAid series. We also had a KDP-18; not bad, but just wasn't as perfect as the 17's.

i agree

there is no dishwasher like a 17 model kitchenaid. that second spray arm and redesigned pump never did anything for me! give me a 17 model over anything else, and the superba 17 is my all time favorite!

but then what do i know! i just love em, that's all!!!!!

i also agree

hey everything gold, that machine is too pretty to tear up for parts! i might be interested. it is avacado isn't it?

I agree. That dishwasher is too nice to part out. An aunt of mine had that exact dishwasher as a built in model for about 33 years. It was left in their house when they moved a year ago.

The KDI in Post #341896 was very popular. My sister, and one of my best friends had that dishwasher. The 17 series was one of the best. Another aunt of mine had the Superba and that was one of my favorites.

Have a good one,
James

Back in high school I took culinary arts and we had a KDI-17A in the 2 kitchens and they hadn't been used for years. Our teachers let us use them , but they couldn't be started until the end of class because we couldn't hear anything that she was teaching!
