I seriously considered selling my Kitchen Aid portable after it developed a leak, but now am having second thoughts since I ran it yesterday and the floor stayed dry. I called a repair shop near me to get a quote on what it would cost to check out this beast.

I'd consider keeping that machine.  Perhaps run it another couple of times to see if the leak happens again. It looks like it's kept in great condition. If anyone didn't know better you would think the machine was practically new. The racks look like they're in pristine shape.

A "from time to time" leak may be else than a damage

Where does it leak from?
Have you changed the detergent?
I find many today's detergents to foam way too much, they're probably tested in today's dishwashers that barely moves any water and are weak and lazy...but in vintage/older real dishwashers that really cleans and sprays water, they'll foam...
Have bought a 30kg caps stock from a German vendor, but by using them in the Indesit what I get is leaks due to bad ovefoaming from the door corners, luckily using it along with some Finish acts to cut the foam down, due to proper quantity of foaming suppressors in the Finish.
I also get the same foaming with Lidl's W5 tablets and Powders from McBride.
Check if leaks occurs because of foam..
Anyways...if not, definitely worth keeping and repair,and members here are so skilled and helpful they'll sure help and guide you doing that yourself in no time,you'll not get anything new as good as that machine....you'll regret giving it away.

Check the dispensers in the door. If there is .. presence of moisture, flip the dispensers around so the bimetals don't short out. Thats what my KDS is doing.

I have to say that aside from one rust spot inside from a cookie sheet the racks, tub, and spray arms are pristine.

kenmoreguy89 I have no idea where the leak came from. I started the dishwasher and when I came back it was on the dry cycle and there was water everywhere. For the life of me I can't remember what detergent was used. I'm hoping it was a fluke because once I ran it yesterday I realized that nothing on the market today will come close to the power that this baby has (as far as portables go)

It can be else, but can't really think of an occasional large leak not being caused by something like that. Call it fluke...or badly formulated modern detergent.
If you have bad pump pipe's seals or faulty seals of the round pump block or element.. the thing would likely leak every time you put water in it, sure enhanced by hot water but it'd happen always....
The detergent cup could also give occasional leaks similar to it, but we're talking of a compromised situation and a leak that already goes on from awhile but minimal, depending on how you load it, water may be sprayed on the cup with more or less force....in the first case, the leak will be more evident than a little stream that until then stayed within the door panel even though it likely goes on from awhile before, this may be a dried/faulty seal of the cup.
Detaching the front panel will immediately give you a picture if that's the case, if you'll see white/residues water marks or water "streams" coming from the cup housing then that's the problem, easy replace really once you got the right part...pop out the cup, put in the new seals some cleaning of cup's solenoid contacts and area with WD40, Pb Blaster etc and it'll be fine.
