KDS-18 powered but no action

Hi everyone. Today had a local plumber install a vintage KitchenAid KDS 18 that I rescued from a house remodel. He’s got everything connected - water, electric, and drain - but she won’t start. When the latch is undone, and I hold down the rinse button, the light comes on, so I know it is getting power. What am I doing wrong? It was pulled from a working house but I did haul it in the back of a pick up over two hours to get it back here. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your suggestions…

Door Switch Actuator

<span style="font-family: 'courier new', courier;">There is something called a door switch actuator in the upper right hand corner of the frame.  It's possible that's the problem or part of it.  I'm concerned that you say you can press the rinse button with the latch in the open position because you should only be able to press the buttons with the latch locked.</span>

 

<span style="font-family: 'courier new', courier;">I don't have a good picture of what it looks like as my machines are stored at the moment.  Maybe someone else has one they can share.  These can get broken off.  There are other experts who may have a better idea but this is one thing that could cause it.  Refer to Figures 38 and 40 of the attached.</span>

Following on from chachp's response.  Here are some photos of the door switch of my KDS-17.  Hopefully the KDS-18 is similar.  The first pic is of the pin on the upper right-hand side of the frame.  The second pic is the switch through the hole that gets pushed by the pin.   Chachp is right that when the door latch is in the released position, the buttons should not be able to be depressed.
