Hello everyone, I have been browsing the forum for quite awhile just out of curiosity but today I become a poster.

My wife and I recently moved into her grandmother's house and we inherited a KDS-60.

We've been together for about 5 years and as long as I have been around every time it ran there was a leak coming from underneath the unit. I imagine it has been leaking much longer than that judging from the corrosion on the bottom. Finally about a year or two ago it stopped draining and as of testing it today I heard a loud electrical whine during the test cycles. As far as I can tell the sprayer does not move and the unit will not drain no matter what I do. I have canceled the cycle, ran it fully, etc. I have been manually vacuuming it out during test runs.

I just need to know if this is salvageable and if I am able to fix this leak. Images posted below of the corrosion in the motor and an arrow pointing where I saw water coming from. I was able to get it to stop leaking when I pressed the little actuating lever that is connected to the area.

Thank you for any and all insight.

Of note, the connection to the middle wash arm is disconnected, from the port that comes through the ceiling. That would cause the system to lose some pressure.

Looks like it has been leaking from the pump shaft seal and/or pump-sump gasket in addition to the leak indicated at the drain valve. Motor probably locked up from rusty bearings-very fixable i would say, but I am not familiar parts avalibility of old Hobart parts. The motor bearings can usually be replaced (they are ball bearings on Hobart motors) If the drain valve is difficult to find replacement, may be able to tighten the rubber bushing by pushing that star shaped retainer in further to stop that leak.

You’ve got a bad drain valve. That’s the easy part. There are lots of those around. We have tons of them.

It also looks like it’s been leaking over the top of the motor. The motor looks pretty rough. You’ll probably need a new motor and rebuild the pump.

If you look at the upper rack, the feed tube to the upper wash arm isn’t even connected so there’s no water getting to the upper wash arm at all.

These were neat dishwashers, but it’s over 40 years old. It just depends how much work you want to put into it. It is possible to fix but it’s gonna cost many hundreds and be a lot of work. The question is how much do you want to put in it?

I noticed the feed tube was missing but I figured that was going to be the least of my worries. 🙃

I would love to work on it but my shop is already full of other projects. Out of curiosity I'm going to be looking into how much it would be to get a new motor and work on the drain valve. If anyone has any part links or sellers I'd love to see what I'm looking at cost wise.

Thank you all for the help. I truly appreciate it.
