Kenmore 80 Series Heavy Duty Plus

Currently down in Puerto Rico at the vacation house. The Kenmore my parents bought like 30 yrs ago is beginning to act up. First time ever. It's dutifully going through the cycles but, every now and then, It won't spin, unless I give the tub a nudge, then it works fine. Sometimes it smells briefly like burning rubber and squeaks. I suppose it just needs a belt, but  was wondering what the experts think. Pictures coming soon!

Loosen the, belt and check to see if pump is spinning freely.
This is 1st area to check.

To tighten belt, retighten motor back on frame and use a hammer to reset tension with 1/2" deflection in the middle of belt.

I'm not an expert

But maybe a worn clutch, mine did the same thing, and I replaced he clutch, and was back in business

He's back in service!

 

 

The belt was slipping and finally broke. It was replaced and the solenoids too. They were sticking. I am taking some pictures, will post them soon! Thanks for all the advice guys!
