Hello! I recently acquired a beautiful 1969 Kenmore 900 Series washer and dryer set. We’ve got it nearly set to go, but are having problems with the gas line. We’re having a hell of a time finding the right size connector. We need a hose or a connector that has 5/8” female, and ideally 1/2” male. We went to our local Ace, Home Depot, and finally a specialty plumbing superstore here, to no avail. Can’t seem to find it online either, and we’re truly stumped.

Help?

Congrats on getting a great set! I would get a new gas flex kit for a dryer and it should have everything you need and your connectors and hose will all be new. What does the line look like coming from the house?

wait, but the flex hose replacement needs to fit...

The flex hose we buy must fit the dryer. It needs a 5/8" female in order to do so. This is the sticking point. We even went to Banner Plumbing here in Chicagoland and they couldn't help us. Feeling deflated. Am I misunderstanding something?

All of the necessary fittings should come with a new hose and should work on the dryer but I would have to know what you have coming from the house to know whether or not it will connect right up to that part.

Connecting a Kenmore gas dryer

There are two fittings on the pipe sticking out of the back of the dryer they need to be removed they’re part of the old gas connector.

A gas dryer connector has a 3/8 inch female fitting that screws onto the 3/8inch male fitting which is sticking out of the back of the dryer.

So you need to remove the old flex line adapter and the fitting that is screwed into it and on the dryer.

The old type of flex line that was originally used is not a size that you will find easily if at all.
