One of our friends has a 1994 Kenmore Series 90 TL washer. It's the model where the fill water passes through the detergent cup on the right front side of the top.

Are these made by GE? I know that most Kenmore washers were made by Whirlpool, but this machine definitely looks different than the normal Kenmore Whirlpool machines. It looks more like a GE. And it doesn't have a neutral drain before spin.

Could this be a GE lurking underneath?

A detergent cup like this?  That's Whirlpool.  It's sourced from Whirlpool if the model number starts with 110.  Regards to the lack of neutral drain, a direct-drive machine of that age should do a neutral drain so probably it's just malfunctioning, needs a neutral drain repair kit.

Allen, that 2nd (or last shot fro glenn) is exactly like my 1986 Shredmore with the triple dispensers. And my tub is in perfect shape!! It's sat in the garage since October 2006 when the Fridgemore arrived.

the tub in reply 2-

have you ever seen a tub with so much caked on .. gunk. Calcium , dirt, lime, what have you.

I've seen it on the back side of the basket. I've only seen calcium that bad once, on a Maytag where I know the water was terrible.

The clothes must surely have come out of the washer with white deposits on them. One must have been blind not to see it.

The wash basket on our friends machine looks clean, but it is gunked up like that in the photo around the plastic basket rim. Her dispensers are clean. I have never seen a design in a TL machine that sends the first part of the fill through the dispenser like a FL machine does.
The complaint was "my washer doesn't sound like it used to, maybe something is wrong with it?" I noticed the neutral drain was gone. Maybe that's a good thing?
But this woman washes everything in cold/cold. I gave her some STPP to add to her detergent and she as very impressed with the results.

from what i can see on the pic the original owner of this washer must of been using liquid detergent in the detergent dispenser when it says dry detergent witch means that this dispenser was made for powder detergents and not liquid detergents thats why the wash basquet looks full of gunk but this is only wht i can see as i never own a washer with a detergent dispenser before.

Those detergent dispensers are pretty neat to watch. The washer fill water comes into the dispenser from the right side, and goes under the plastic circular bezel and into the tub. The water comes in with quite an amount of force to push all the detergent into the tub. When all the detergent is in the tub, the remainder of the water fill comes in from the top at the rear of the tub.

That's the dispenser I have on my current Kenmore TOL machine. It has an insert for liquid detergent. I've been forced to use liquid since lately that's all that has been on sale so I dug mine out.
