Kenmore closeout

I noticed today when i stopped in Sears, that they have a new toploader to replace i'm gussing the 80 series machines. It has the control panel of the KM Elites, but a back opening lid like BOL Whirlpool machines/Roper.

It seems KM, though i may be wrong, are going to do away with side opening lids. Oh well.

The King Size capacity Elites do have the full back opening lid, but I'm sure the rest of the line is still a side opening lid.

following the sears/k mart, and maytag situations, the Real kenmore closeout may not be, just a rear opening lid. I will sure miss them. Wonder if they are going the way of Wards Signature. Remember Wards went bye bye during, or right after a Christmas shopping season. IIRC.

While I was in KMart today, I noticed they had a bunch of Kenmore appliances up at the front of the store. All reduced, like the ones in the outlet. What struck me were the washers with the almost full-width back opening lid. I lifted it, expecting to find something interesting like a Calypso, but it was just plain vanilla inside. The tub seemed pretty small for such a big lid.

SearsMart seriously messing with the good will and large sales of Kenmore. If they did, it would be suicide.

Umm, this is about the time of the year when Sers begins closeout on current models in prep for the new year models. Dishwashers will probably follow suit in about 2 to 3 months.

The point i was trying to make was that, Kenmore still held out on side opening lids to make at least a little bit of distinction from Whirlpool.

More cost cutting bs in my opinion.

Also the commercial line of Kenmores kept the swingback lid all these years. One apartment complix I lived in had KM coin machines like that; also the dryers had the sideswing doors, unlike the trad. pull down door (load-a-door?). Why this big of difference in commercial and home use machines I don't know. Loved those good KMs circa 1983.

Maybe its just the........

New energy regs, Searmart has a lot of faith in those new f/l kenmores. IMHO another slap to a well established customer base. When its relacement time for one failed t/l washer or kmore dryer. most replacers are not going to want a space ship, just another similar kenmore to replace the broken one and half way match the surviving washer or dryer. just my 2 cents. gotta remember too the empty nesters who may replace, now will probably downsize home size in the future, doubt they have overall interest in a $1500. washer.

Arthur, I think you may be a bit too critical. I've seen empty nesters buying thoser $1500 machines on epinions & the laundry forum.

To also put things a bit in perspective....in the 50's an automatic washer cost the equivalent of about $2000 in 1950's dollars. But some people today think anything over $300 for a washer is too much money. (And then complain that it is an all-plastic disposable piece of junk.)
