I've been doing various "improvement" tasks to the machines that have long since been on my list, and one of them was changing the control console out on the '82 Kenmore. The problem on the new console (that Kenny sent me) was the connector to the wiring harness, which was a 10-pin, 4 row by 3 row, and the connector on the original panel was an 8-pin, 3 row by 3 row. Also, the new console was set up differently than the old, and the wiring on that console wasn't long enough to connect to the wiring harness (which is located in the lower left-hand corner of the top panel). I tried both harnesses and neither would line up, and tried mounting the timer differently as well. In the process drilling all the way through the front...yikes!! But, it was pretty much all for naught, as the timer didn't cycle according to the inlays. One console won't work and the other (original) is all scratched up, unfortunately, but I did keep all parts, including the mechanical components (water temperature and pressure switch), knobs, and endcaps.

So I'm back to square one again and posting another plea out to anyone who sees these old machines quite frequently. Can you find or do you have a Kenmore control console that you're not using, with an 8-pin, 3 row by 3 row harness connector? I'll probably find time to check out a few "Deadmores" with decent control panels and possibly bring one home for parts (as there's another BD Kenmore I'm going to work on after all this is finished), but please, let me know if you have something! I have two working timers so the timer doesn't necessarily have to work, so anything will do!

Let me know at [email protected]. Thanks!!!

And for the control panel inlays to match up with the timer settings, it needs to have Pre-Wash, Permanent Press, Regular, and Delicate cycles.

The problem is the new console is for a machine with an off balance switch. You can use the new console but you will need the harness for it. Then you will have to connect the two wires for the off balance switch together.

Another thing I have done in the past is use the original harness and extend all the wires so they will reach their intended destination. then cut off one row of the new console connector with a hack saw. You would cut off the end row that has the red with green stripe wire on it. Then you can plug them together. You then would connect together the Red with green stripe wire off the new connector to the violet wire. These are the wires that go to the off balance switch.

I've been able to unplug the wires from the plastic plug, and rearrange them to line up with what's in the washer. There is a tool that makes this simple, but a tiny screwdriver will also work. Ya gotta be careful, though,to be able to match up the wires in both plugs.
