The recipe..

Came out of a Kenmore instruction book...I quickly found out this dough was WAY too soft to roll easily, so I made my Moms favorite Sugar Cookie.
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 heaping tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
Mix together and cut in 2 sticks or 1 cup real butter, as you would for biscuits or pie crust
stir in 1 egg mixed with 1/2 cup sour cream and 1 tsp vanilla
roll thin, cut out and bake on ungreased cookie sheets 325 for 15 min or until light brown..

Kenmore Mixer

Is this the notorious mixer that has a spinning bowl in the opposite direction of the beater? What setting is being used in the picture taken? Beater appears to be spinning kinda fast to be stirring in flour. Was the dough soft before being chilled? I usually chill most cookie doughs even if the directions don't say so. you get a more tender and less dry cookie doing that.

Westinghouse Mixer in the background

I just recently acquired a Westinghouse mixer like what you have in the background, I like how quiet and powerful it is. Too bad Westinghouse did not employ a bowl speed button like Betty Crocker, Sunbeam and Hamilton Beach did with their stand mixers. The spout of the Westinghouse juicer is hinged to be tilted to stop drips while changing juice glasses or pitchers

Actually..

The recipe I took pictures making was the Kenmore recipe, it calls for creaming the butter and sugar,That was what the picture was taken of, the mixer has a plastic bowl that sets on a base that has a braking mechanisim in it, the bowl cant run away, the mixer was advertised as having the most power of any mixer on the market, and for that time it did, 180 watts, I didnt take pictures making Mothers recipe which is the one I posted, I usually cut in the butter by hand with a pastry blender.

One Bowl Wonder

Hans, how does this mixer compare to the single beater Kitchenaid for speed of mixing and creaminess of the finished butter and sugar? I have seen these but never used one. Is it something you could use for a daily driver?

Km vs Ka

Actually it works very well, the only thing is the bowl is plastic so I would be afraid to put it in the dishwasher, but as far as mixing it works as good as anything., very powerful too!

Fiber Composite

I know the bowls are prone to cracking, first at the center bottom and then up the sides. Once the bowl loses it's grip on the brake assembly it spins during mixing. The bowl is out of stock of course. I wonder if keeping it moist (your climate helps some) or oiled protects the bowl from drying out and splitting. Any experts like Rich know more about the composition of the bowl and how to best prolong it's life.

Black and Decker made a similiar mixer in the 90's and added a bowl scraper to the beater assembly but I haven't had a chance to use one. Capriel Pence used the Black and Decker line up of professional appliances in her Portland television set and I watched her use it.
